Initial Problems But Overall Great

Well first off, yes, the leasing staff is stupid and help-less. They don't really know anything about the apartment and are no help in finding you the right place. We had put a deposit down for a place that we've yet to see, and they never bothered to call us to arrange a viewing. But their inefficiencies has their advantages; suchas getting signed up was real quick and painless, and they even forgot to collect "important information" from us.
The initial place we were suppose to rent was awful! The carpets was old, the appliances were ancient, the neighbors looked weird and it was located in a part of the complex that looked like a prison. The elevator was broken and you had to walk like 3 flights of stairs to get there. It had no greenery anywhere so it looked depressing and cold.
Upset, I demanded to speak to a manager (George) and I insisted we go over our options one more time. Upon a final exploration we learned we could have one their proud "renovated" apartments for practically the same price as the original prison cell. Without hesitation we accepted it and picked the best one available.
It's just me and my cousin (I'm a college student studying web design and shes a working girl) so we're not exactly looking for peace and quiet. We wanted to be surrounded by young people, be near things and live in a clean and safe area. This place is right on the mountains before Ventura dips down towards Tarzana/Encino so it has lovely views. Our apartment has lots of planters and the colors are very bright and pleasant. On the first day there we already met 8 of our neighbors who are all our same age and we all have similar interests, photography, acting, RC cars, drinking and girls! Their all so very pleasant and down to earth and they regularly hang out together. It feels more like a college dorm than an apartment (at least in my section, I know other sections are family zones). It's cool having a Guard Gate, sure they'd probably let anybody in but its' still cool and gives you the illusion that your protected.
It's close to everything! Trader Joes, whole foods, a nice Ralphs (the one on Winnetka), malls, theatres, restaurants, everything. Woodland Hills is the one of the best places to live in the Valley, if not the best. I'm born and raised in the valley and I've seen the sharp decline of most inner and upper parts of the valley. I would only live off the boulevard and Woodland Hills is definitely the nicest, cleanest and most upbeat. (Although council Dennis Zine is a huge prick)
I personally painted the walls in our home so it has a nice, modern feel to it like in the model we first saw. The walls are thin but not so much that your hearing whats going on next door, just so much that you know your not alone. The new appliances are awesome and the washer/dryer unit is HUGE!! I can wash my entire load in it, whereas my previous in-unit washer/dryer could barely hold 3 pants. It has new price fister faucets which are very nice, and the cabinets are very Euro-inspired (I used to sell Italian cabinets so I know).
The pool has tons of hot girls in it and the newly-renovated weight room is amazing! It's all new and modern with tons of flat screen TV's and each exercise bike has its own LCD screen built-in. Everything is brand new and very modern. Its very awesome and actually makes you want to work out.
Overall in MY experience it's great. Granted, we're in the better building, better area, with better parking and better neighbors. But this place is huge (693-ish apartments) so you could def get a bad place and it could be a nightmare! It's a gamble, I'll agree. I almost lost this gamble (with the prison cell) but fortunately I demanded better and I received it. Nothing is perfect, but if you know what you want and speak to a manager you might just get it here.
