Overall better than surrounding areas

We've been here awhile now. It has been an up and down experience.
The Goods:
1) Maintenance responses are fast. Workers come in and do the work. Professional about entering, etc. Will allow outside work to be done. Gave good suggestion for cleaning our carpets.
2) Nice view from our apartment. The trees are pretty and the grounds are nicely kept. Trash is picked up. Pool area is nice. It's pretty when it rains here.
3) Relatively safe feeling within the area.
4) For what we looked at near this area, the rent is pretty good for what you get.
4) Haven't had any real rudeness from staff at front desk. Sometimes they don't seem to be up to date about rules, but they're nice.
The Bads:
1) PARKING: Tandem SUCKS!! Our schedules are so that we are constantly having to switch the cars around! ARGH! Also, there has been vandalism and break-ins, including ours.
2) Inside layouts are difficult to furnish comfortably, and kitchen must have been designed by a person who does no cooking. Very tiny! Apartments on the 1st and 2nd floors are dark. Light switches in rooms are really confusing.
3) Very little storage, not even in garage. We've had to rent Public Storage space for things we don't use often.
4) The new management, AIMCO, seems very removed. The staff in the office is nice, but the real owners are very distant. Computer generated notices. People you talk to in the office are not the decision makers, so thay can hand the blame over to the absent owners. Once, my rent check was late because of the post office once, and I got a NASTY note from AIMCO 3 days later saying I'll be evicted. No courtesy call or inquiry before hand. They just wanted their money, and seemed to automatically think I was skipping.
5) -----like when it comes to outside decorations on your areas (balcony, front door, etc.). Notices are nasty here too.
6) Noise level is high: Kids use halls for play areas, loud stereos, pool area in summer, car alarms, sirens, overflying planes and heliocopters, freeway, etc.
7) Some real gang bangers are appearing. Too bad, because you'd think with this high rent district, you wouldn't have to deal with that.
8) Friends have a helluva time finding your apt. and parking outside on the street.
Overall:
Seems pretty typical for apartment living. Better than all we looked at. When you live in apts, you have to expect more noise, parking problems, small rooms, and balistic office notices. But, the area is gorgeous, a great park nearby with free concerts in the summer, beautiful trees, and stores really close. Maintanence is good, and area is supervised pretty well. All around a decent place to live. Not a place to settle for good, but great for transient times.
