They must've changed management...

This is my first attempt at apartment living. I was leary about security issues. One night I got home late from work and backed into the parking spot and listened to the radio for a few minutes. Within minutes I had the security guard checking on me. He recognized me right away (I'd met him the night I dropped off my application) and just said he was supposed to check on suspicious "people in cars." I was impressed. Granted, that wouldn't have happened if he hadn't already been in the lot.
Another time, I made mention of problem with my furnace, not an actual request for repair, but they came in that day anyway and checked it out. I was embarrassed 'cuz the place was a mess, but impressed that it was dealt with so promptly.
I've decided that maintenance must come through every day and sweep the hallways. One day I noticed clumps of dog hair on some steps and in the hall carpet...the next day it was gone. During the fall, there were leaves on the carpet, but within 24 hours it was cleaned up again.
Someone mentioned finding out after they'd moved in that live Christmas trees weren't allowed. I was informed of this right up front. Along with a zillion other policies, but hey, they have to keep things safe and not everyone's going to be happy with everything.
What I don't like is the non-soundproofness of the place. I can hear people talking up stairs, walking around, music, TV, etc. This is extremely annoying to me since I'm obviously not used to it (first timer, remember.) But, granted, it was built 30 years ago...things have changed. I don't know how it could be made quieter without extremely expensive remodeling, but then the rent wouldn't be where it is now. The train is annoying, but you get used to it...life in the big city, and all that.
I've felt save there, and I'm a big chicken. Like I said, they must have changed management, 'cuz some of these reviews that are a year or sold old don't seem to be happening now. (Unless it's at the other end of the compound!)
...and WOW, this is a long review!!!!!
