Served its purpose

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2007
The recommendation above applies if you are seeking a complex that offers a comparatively low rental rate, which was our chief requirement for a time. First, the apartment itself: I understand the complex was buily sometime in the mid-70's. We lived in two different units during our stay. The first unit in which we lived was a sub-ground level, 2 bedroom unit facing the north side of the grounds. Although it was somewhat dark, the utilities were fairly reasonable. Unfortunately, the complex leased the apartment above us to a couple that was loud and unruly. We could easily hear his overweight wife clomping around above us as well as his "surround sound" music/tv setup that incessantly vibrated our walls and ceiling. The fixtures and furnishings in the apartment were in acceptable condition although the decor was somewhat unremarkable. After a year, we moved to a third floor apartment, also two bedroom. Again the decor was rather bland, and the carpet, although cleaned prior to our move-in, was visibly worn & stained, and by all rights should have been replaced. Maintenance promptly replaced the dated dishwasher in our unit when we brought its condition to their attention. Through the last couple of years, however, we've been plagued by the hellish sliding doors installed over all the closets. They're made of a thin piece of paneling held to together by a lightweight metal frame with pieces that always seems to detach & hang up the door. We finally gave up on one of them and had to permanantly remove it and leave it behind our sofa. As to the grounds, I can say the parking was adequate and I was glad to see the prior management leave because they would bother us EVERY summer with their lot resurfacing (making us move our cars/trailer under threat of towing). Besides, we would have the "resident newsletter" posted on our door every few months. It contained a wealth of useful information such as reminders of an upcoming Christmas holiday or Haloween('), and of course, the obligatory reminder to pay the rent on the first of the month. About a year ago, a new management took over. Then, in an effort to generate more revenues, they erected carports in front of the building. Now I don't have any problem with a carport for those who would want to pay extra to keep their car under a shelter, but did they have to put them up directly in front of the building' Now we can't park our car there to unload groceries, back a high-profile truck in to load or unload household goods, or do other errands under the threat of being towed IMMEDIATELY! Usually, an apartment complex will erect structures like this out in the middle of the lot. The pool was small and sufficient for children, but management contracted a busybody resident to watch the area, and this individual made pool visits something we tended to avoid. The snow removal was somewhat marginal during the last blizzard. The guy came out to plow when the snow was about 6-8"deep and then left the rest of the snowfall to get packed down into a big icesheet after the storm. Eventually, they brought in a front-end loader to clear it out, but the parking lot was fairly negotiable for driving by then. During our stay here, we haven't had many dealings with management, especially the new group. We haven't had any problems with them that I'm aware of. We chose to move because we wanted more space and in-apartment laundry facilities. The laundry machines here are 'maintained' by a contractor. There are two washers and two dryers for each building. The machines aren't cleaned and frequently leave a residue on the laundry. Additionally, there is inadequate hot water supplied to the wash machines, the laundry rooms are usually dirty, and the dryers have a hard time completely drying the laundry unless you pay double (probably due to poor venting). Presently, management/owners need to embark on a methodical renovation plan to this property in order to maintain competiveness in the market and preserve or increase their rent revenues.
