Do ANYTHING but live here

We've lived here for almost two years (God help us) in two different aparments. The first one had seen much better days... in 1972. The one we are currently in is one of their 'remodeled' apartments. The pictures shown are from this apt. There is paint all over the carpet, you can clearly see drywall tape UNDER the paint on the walls, both of our showers leak through the walls and they think we're crazy and won't fix them, our dishwasher leaks ALL over the kitchen floor and again they think we're making that up, the stove's burners are lopsided and IMPOSSIBLE to cook on but they refuse to do anything about it, and I swear it doesn't matter how much I clean the place always looks dingy. We have put in a lot of maintenance requests that have never been fulfilled, and when they have it's after the 3rd time we've asked them, and nothing ever gets fixed correctly anyway.

Furthermore, the office staff used to be incredibly rude. Recently, however, the complex has undergone a change in managment and done a total overhaul on their maintenance and office staff (unknown to the tenants until after it all happened). I can't say much for the maintenance staff, since they haven't come to fix anything, but the office staff, while much more tolerable, doesn't seem to have a clue. I'm sure taking over the complex has been a nightmare, but I can't get a straight story between two people to save my life!!! We over paid our rent one month by $60 and instead of knocking it off our rent the next month, they billed it to us!!! When I went in and showed them the error (comparing my checkbook to our util and rent bill) they insisted I still owed them $60. This issue is still unresolved.

I think the worst part of it all is, that we HATE the apartment and community we live in and we are WAY over paying for it. While our rent says it's only $750/month we end up paying between $150 and $160 extra every month in utilities alone, NOT including electricity (so just water, sewage, trash and gas)!!! I've been to the office many times to try and understand how this is possible, but they brush it off by saying that it all goes through a separate company and they can't do anything about it.

We're moving at the beginning of October and have found BEAUTIFUL townhomes, condos, apartments and even houses in much nicer communities that will actually end up saving us about $100 a month with rent/util combined. Hmmm... live somewhere we love and save $1,200 a year, or live in a dump we can't stand and LOSE $1,200 a year. It's not a difficult decision really. I really hope you all do more research and do anything but live at Hickory Ridge!!!
