Went downhill fast!

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

My husband and I and our young son eagerly moved into our apartment February of 2007. At that time we loved the office staff, they were super friendly and knew us by name. Maintenance staff was overworked and understaffed, but fairly efficient. Then the apartments were bought out by Bethany Management and things have gone from tolerable to ridiculous. My first major complaint of them comes from an incident a couple of months ago when a domestic violence situation broke out next door. Up till this point I've never heard any of my neighbors in a year of living here. So when I heard the screams I knew it was intense. I tried to call the managers first because many apartments have relationships with local police to respond quickly to such things. I left a message and asked the manager to return my call. I then called the police myself and they quickly handled the situation, but it's been weeks and I've still not heard from management. Secondly, our dishwasher has NEVER worked. After having it worked on at least 4 times we finally gave up. Thirdly, our air condition hasn't worked reliably at all. In fact, it simply doesn't work. Yesterday was in the mid 90's outside and even warmer in. We've called the Emergency Line for maintenance 7 hours ago and still haven't heard from them. I might have more patience about this, but we've called our a/c into maintenance many times. They make lots of noise, replace parts that have NOTHING to do with the a/c and leave...still broken. Fourthly, though we've been charged every month for renting a washer and dryer for the unit, it didn't work for the first 4 months we lived here. Fifthly, the pool filter seems to be in a constant state of "not working". Finally, the units are so inefficient that we pay as much in our electric and gas bill for our 900 square foot apartment as my parents (who live in the neighborhood) pay for their 3000 square foot home. Our electric bill alone, even with watching our usage, is about $150 a month! These apartments could be amazing, but as long as management continues to not care about the residents I'm afraid it's just a big waste.

A resident who recently moved out told me that her first floor apartment, even though on an incline, floods everytime there's a heavy rain. She tried to get out of her lease and was met with quite a bit of resistence until she showed them pictures of the black mold growing in the kitchen. Our lease is nearly up, and I'm more than a little anxious to get my family out of here. I'm also a little concerned that they will attempt to make us pay for THEIR failing apartment.
