Forget privacy, it's basically a dorm with a kitchen

I lived at Bear Creek for two and a half years, and fortunately have just moved out. At first, I appreciated the amenities such as the dishwasher, new construction, included tv, internet, and utilities, but that is where the good points end.

If you end up living there in a multiple person apartment without a roommate, they WILL send someone in to live with you WITHOUT NOTICE. I met my last roommate at 9 am, after being woken up by the noise of people standing in my kitchen opening and shutting my cabinets; I really did not appreciate the lack of notice. I stumbled out of my bedroom scared s##tless to find a new roommate standing in there with her parents.

The residents are loud at all times, and on weekends it often sounded like horse races were going on above me at four am. I could definitely tell that I lived in the 'stoner building' of the two in the complex, as I frequently smelled weed smoke coming in through the air vents and bathroom fan. Parties occur on all nights of the week, and it doesn't matter if it's finals time or not.

At night, groups of guys roam the halls, leering creepily at all girls whom they pass; weird people can often be found hanging outside the building. I never felt all that safe, especially since people let in weird strangers all the time- controlled access is a joke.

Parking is beyond rediculous. Whenever my boyfriend or friends came to visit, I would have to get them a 24 hr parking pass which was valid only in the dorm next door's lot- a very long walk away. When my car was in the shop for a month I also had to get temporary parking passes very often, and they forced me to park in that distant lot despite my situation and the fact that I paid the FOURTY FIVE DOLLAR FEE to park in the closest lot. I consider that very unfair. I paid $45 for nothing that month!

Management has changed, but is just as atrocious, if not more so. The old management used to at least knock before wandering into my apartment for the lamest reasons ("filter checks" are just a rouse to look in your apartment for stolen items and . contraband). I have heard horror stories about people walking into apartments while residents are standing there naked, but fortunately that never happened to myself. By the time I moved out, random management intrusions to my apartment were becoming bi-weekly, and always early in the morning.

Office staff is comprised mostly of students who live in the building, and they are generally clueless. Don't bother asking any of them a question, as all they know how to do is fetch packages from the mail room. They are uninformed and generally incompetent with a couple people whom are exceptions.

Maintenance with the old management was far better, and the maintenance guys were actually nice. Now, you have to do something through a website, but they just send you back an email cancelling your work order and telling you to go through the Bear Creek office, even though the office said that I have to do it through the website.

The apartments themselves are built with the cheapest possible materials, and things frequently break. Toilets will clog on three pieces of toilet paper, appliances are the cheapest, most basic models, and the furniture is plywood covered with cheap rough brown fabric, particle board with aluminum, and mattresses are foam pads covered with waterproof material. If you have no furniture, love the color brown, and don't mind something cheap and crappy- you'll like it.

Windows are really drafty, and whenever the wind blows it sounds so loud due to the windows that it is hard to sleep. Other places where I have lived were not that affected by winds so as to have the windows amplify the howling and squealing of the wind.

Basically, my main reason for moving out was the managment's treatment of me and fellow residents. They are disrespectful, intrusive, and treat residents like children. I am also glad to be away from the noise, the gangs of lecherous guys, and the poor construction.

Live here only if you are desperate. There are far better places to live in Boulder. I have moved into a one bedroom apartment along Thunderbird, and pay $585 versus the $625(just my half for a 2br/1ba) I paid at Bear Creek. (Rent for me in a two bedroom at BC was $825 when I moved in, and my roommate had to pay the same.) They charge nearly $1000 for a one bedroom at BC!
