Renter Beware: Sketchy Management, Hidden Fees

I contacted this company looking to rent an apartment advertised on Craigslist. First of all, I was informed that the unit I was interested in was available for its advertised price "special price" that day only, and "National Management" restricted them from allowing me more time to make a decision. I have a feeling this line gets used often. I was surprised to see the same unit advertised at it "special price" 3 days later.
Further, I was asked to make $1050 worth of deposits...$650 of which I would not get back. To top things off, they stated "National Management" restricted them from letting me sign a lease longer than 6 months. In other words, they wanted $650 in nonrefundable deposits for a unit they couldn't guarantee me longer than 6 months.
I am very relieved I did not rent here and I suggest anyone considering moving here ask very carefully about deposit refunds and lease terms right off the bat. And if they tell you that you have to make a decision today to get the "special price", they are lying to you.
Good luck house hunting!
