Not as bad as it looks from the outside

I lived at Cavalier for about 2 years. The units themselves are decent. My unit had some really crappy linoleum in the bathroom and kitchen when I looked at the place. I mentioned that I wasn't thrilled about the tiling (it had definitely been there since the 70s), so they had new linoleum in both rooms before I moved it. They were pretty good about responding to maintenance requests too. Cabinet space was good and carpets were clean. Management, generally, was helpful and nice. The pool and the surrounding area is actually well-kept and quiet during the day.
The bad: the parking lot is a deathtrap in many ways. My car was hit & run with $2K damage in my first month of living there. Kids play ball right by your car without any regard for their noise or your property. When it snows, the lot is not cleared, and you may not get your car out of the lot until the next season when it all melts.
Security is severely lacking. The doors (and locks )to the outside don't seem very secure, and you feel like there's no privacy since you can hear people right out your window even if they're speaking quietly.
Lastly, the rents have gone up a lot, to the point where it's close to not worth the financial savings. It is a close walk to CU though (10-15 minutes, don't let anyone say it's 5).

Walk times: Less than 5 min to CU borders, 15 min to Muenzinger Psych, 10 min to most buildings in between, 20 min to the rec center.
I lived there for 3 years (Jun 02 - Jun 05) and pretty much agree with this review.
By that time, the parking lot was decent, and incidents other than illegal parking/getting a boot were rare. Trash bins are in the middle of the parkng lot and many neighbors, mostly latinos like me, are not used to recycling, so the garbage pile often became too smelly and messy for my taste.
I never had any concerns about security, however it wasn't pleasant the loud BANDA music (noise?) you hear almost everyday.
My overall experience was good, prices and quality were pretty much balanced and management was very corteous and helpful (until Feb 05). I specially recommended it to foreigners with poor understanding of spoken english (but decent skills in written english), because I was one of them in 2002 and these guys really knew how to deal with us patiently.
