I lived at Crackside for about 9 months-after that I decided I could not stand the noise and filth anymore and actually moved home to my parents' house while continuing to pay rent. It just was not worth it to stay there. First of all, the apartment was not cleaned when we moved in. I had to vacuum the whole place myself, and the carpet was filthy (they had promised to replace it before we moved in.) They told me they woulod give me discounted rent for having to do all the cleaning myself, but they never did.
Second, there were roaches and mice all over the place. At night, if you came in the kitchen and turned on the light, you would see roaches scurrying away--hunderds of them. We had to go stay at hotels while we bug-bombed the place. Then, we got to clean up dead bugs the next day. the management acted like we were making the whole thing up. There are rodents scurrying around inside the walls, and the furniture is ugly and falling apart. People smoke out the stairwells and urinate in the elevators and hallways. It is like an inner-city tenement house.
I found that there were few students living there. It was mostly sketchy-looking people, who were very unfriendly in general.
The fire alarms went off all the time, and the pool looked nice, but smelled awful. My room was right above the pool and there were always all-night partied going on outside.
I could never find parking. I had to park far away and then walk home.
The place is FILTHY and DEPRESSING. It is NOT a good deal. THe rent is not cheap, even if it is close to campus. You can even find stuff on the Hill for cheaper. This place needs to be torn down and rebuilt. Parents, do not doom your child to live in this place. This place truly has the worst reputation in Boulder, it is not safe, nor friendly, nor a "student's best buy."
