Could be worse From: -Anonymous- Date posted: 5/28/2003 Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2003   Ive lived in worse places. Good location if you use the bus or shop at Wild Oats a lot. Apartments are all 1 bedrooms around 600-sq. ft. The apts. facing 11th get a lot of noise from surrounding student ghetto (the building is on the edge of the "hill") . Getting a reverse 911 call telling me to close the windows because the police were about to tear gas the students was not a pleasant experience. In the years Ive lived here, idiots living west of the building have set off firecrackers in the middle of the night. Apts. facing Broadway get road noise. However, Ive heard the apartments on the inner courtyards were quiet. If you get an apt. on the upper floors you can leave the windows open on hot nights which is nice (assuming the students arent rioting). The parking lots on either side of the building are too small to accommodate all the residents and are sort of difficult to get into in any case. There is a bad problem with people turning into the lots and blowing car horns all day and night. They cant park so they think its all right to wake 100 people up in the building up at, say 5:00 AM, just to alert their friends they have arrived. As far as the residents are concerned, half appear to be Mexican and other half students. Many of the -------- have kids and sometimes these kids vandalize the building with what appear to be gang signs. Management has been good about cleaning up graffiti, in general, and keeping the building in good shape. They have enough staff to do the job. But you should know the plumbing this building is very old. Most of the time you have a choice between very hot or very cold showers but nothing inbetween. The resident manager gets goofy when she is under stress, though. And particularly irritating thing is that she refuses to accept Fed Ex or UPS packages when you arent home. Only way to get the packages is to go the Fed EX or UPS office/warehouse. Laundry facilities are inadequate. I take all my laundry to a Laundromat instead. Apts. are wired for cable and high speed Internet access.
