TOTAL CRAP

I'm writing a second review now that i've only got one month left until I move out.
When I first moved in, there were a few problems. The bathroom has a fan and light interconnected, so one can't be on without the other. The fan is horrendously loud, screaming and squealing. When asked to fix it I was informed it wasn't too bad (yeah, right) and that they didn't have replacements.
Additionally, the overhead light (floodlights) was broken and dangling by a wire, a major safety hazard. They told me they can't fix it, and so just stuck some bonding putty and a clamp on it. The clamp is still there. Now, of course, the light isn't adjusteable. I'm afraid to remove the clamp.
One request they did fix quickly was my dish washer. I told them I needed it done within 60 days. They did it around day 15. I rarely use the dish washer anyway. (The problem was that a seal had broke. They replaced the seal, although it wouldn't shut right for a while until it wore in. It's fine now.)
Then I began having severe electrical problems with four of the five outlets in the room: One wouldn't light a lamp, or power any high-draw electrical device. The other three periodically lost power, wouldn't power anything drawing less than 2 watts, and making my UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) flash an emergency alarm because they were not properly grounded, the UPS was actually reporting it was absorbing small amounts of power FROM the ground. The UPS works fine in the one functional outlet, which I connect by extension cord.
After much complaint and even using a quick-tester (which doesn't test anything beyond the polarity and whether power is on) they claimed there was no problem, and that they could only replace the sockets. I made them do so but they only replaced one, and the problem was still there. Upon disassembling the socket there was enormous amounts of crap, looking like burnt fur or something, inside. This may be related to the mouse sightings (read on to see more).
They have no called an electrician as has been asked many times. And by now it's too late.
The building has period very mild problems with vermin.
I've spotted a mouse, which they immediately had an exterminator come and put in traps. I suspect however that they may have already damaged the building's electrical systems.
As well, there was starting to be silverfish in my bathroom, before the exterminator did a good spraying. They haven't returned.
The balcony appears to be either damaged or under construction, and has been since I moved in December.
The pool seems to be left going on all night, and floods over the fill line and has to use the overflow drain. Waste of water and fills the pill too high, messing up the chlorine balance. (It's really easy on the eyes underwater, tho!)
The building looks like an institution, or old-fashioned school as it's all painted cinderblocks. The locals say the building used to be a laboratory until it was converted by SUP.
Also, SUP has changed ownership (and management) FOUR TIMES since December. It's currently June.
Rent has gone up, and the deposit (not mentioned online or in ads) doubled from $200 to $400, and is no longer optional, . There is also now a $70 non-refundable, non-optional application and processing fee (even if you're declined). You also have to pass a credit check, background check, and have a steady income (with proof/paystub) of 3.5x the rent. Rent was $370/mo to share a small 12x15 foot room with someone, and the kitchen with another shared unit across from it (so 2 people per room, 2 per bathroom, and 4 per kitchen) and that has now gone up. It's now $450/mo if I want the same deal for the same amount of time! If you want the full room, it's $800/mo. And if you want both sides, it's $1500/mo. For that I can get an entire HOUSE with utilities and with four times the space!
I am obviously not renewing.
It is also a bit noisy, but not nearly as bad as the other reviews say. I've had much worse. However recently some children moved in and they often run up and down the halls screaming during the day, so anyone who sleeps in the day may be very disturbed.
There is no scenery: My room faces inward at the foyer, a tiny little 8x8 area with a tree and all the building's air-conditioners in it. 'Ugly' doesn't begin to describe it.
Also, there's no real security. The actual building's doors are unlocked all the time because the doors are damaged, and have been since I moved in in December. However the Computer Room, Gym, and Pool all have both locks and electronic locks, with a security system installed: YOu need to swipe a FOB key and then use a normal key to unlock and use them at night or early morning. Yet no security for the residents living inside!'
Also, you share your A/C and heater with all 4 people you live with, causing a MASSIVE headache: There is no way to adjust any room individually, they're all the same all the time. And the A/C doesn't cool very well to start with.
The toilets are all super-low volume 'ecoflush' toilets, causing clogs to be a commonplace occurance. And the bathtubs drain slowly.
Also suffers from hard water.
Location also uses a duplexed phone system, so if the power goes out you also lose the phoneline. A note for possible emergency situations. (This, however, is not something SUP can control.)
There is NO wheelchair or handicapped access, and the entire building is pretty much baricaded by short and long steps in a haphazard manner. I'm not even disabled and I have trouble! Handicapped beware!
They recently repainted the parking lot, but the lines are crooked and uneven, it looks like drunk drivers painted the lines.
The lawn is dead and dying, and littered with their advertisements and billboards to attract people.
The place is becoming very vacant, and it is currently their busiest month. Yet they have less than 3/4 occupancy.
They also like to charge people for furniture they never furnished.
Laundry is crap, the loads are tiny and many of the washing machines do not spin correctly anymore. They cost $0.75 for a wash, and $0.75 for a dry. Dryers work fine, though the lint traps are broken on all of them.
Finally, staff are very rude and extremely hesitant to fix anything. THey seem to want to blame everyone but themselves, and never fix anything.
It took them 4 months to NOT fix a safety and fire hazard in my apartment.
It took them a week to replace a lock on my mailbox (that I paid $30 for, and they kept saying 'We'll do it today, I promise!')
They're frequently not in the office during times they're scheduled to be.
They do not handle packages (they sit them on a shelf and just let people grab stuff. Nothing stops people from stealing packages!)
And if you are even remotely late by even a day, they will turn outright hostile and threaten eviction right away, despite if you've paid in advance for nearly a year. )Rent is due on the 1st, on the 4th they charge $50 and $5/day, and on the 8th you go to eviction! They continue to charge until the 25th, when they physically remove you and your stuff, and charge lawyer fees for a lawyer they don't have.)
Frankly, I can't think of a single good point to the entire place. It's a SLUM!
