nice place, bad management

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
Management:
Lori at the front office is a horrible, horrible person to deal with. I lived there for 2 years. She told me I couldn't get the current year's price (lower than the current lease) on my apartment if I renewed unless I changed units. I wound up extending my lease and I did get the current price only by walking over with my intent to move notice and asking if they would reconsider giving me the better deal sans moving.
Maintenance:
Besides the retarded property manager, the maintenance staff was pretty good. I did have a pipe break in my wall while I was on vacation and came back to a small forest of mold and damaged furniture. They offered to steam-clean my floor and replace the padding, but I couldn't get new carpet. The steam job was horrible, but even the professionals I hired when I left couldn't get the mold-stains out. I found out later they replaced my carpet ... it would have been nice if they could have replaced it before I moved out.
Neighborhood:
The neighborhood isn't that bad if you don't mind Latinos. I thought it was OK, I did have a fight occur on my lawn between some kids and I called the cops on them but I grew up in a Mexican neighborhood so I'm not as easily disturbed by brown people. I think most of these people that say the neighborhood is bad are just afraid of the Mexican enclave around the corner. They're good folk though, not gangbangers like other posters have indicated.
Amenities:
The facilities are laughable and only there so they can advertise that they have a "pool/clubroom/etc..." on their advertisements.
More Management:
They threaten to fine you for all sorts of minor infractions. I'm not even sure if they legally are allowed to do that. I never got fined but sort of wanted to so I could raise a ruckus about it.
Improvements:
I lived there before the ceiling fans and the lower level gets hellaciously hot in the summer (90-106, seriously ... it was 106 one day in my apartment when it was 101 or so outside) even if you take the proper steps for shade/moving air/etc... They did put a fan in, but only after I moved. I really resented that because I found out they started installing them in vacant units after my 1st year there. The only improvements ever made at T-ridge are on unoccupied units. They totally don't care about their current tenants.
Proximity to campus:
It is close to campus--if you're an engineering student. If you have classes near the top of the hill it's basically as far as living at goss grove/arapahoe.
Bugs:
I had ants but I also had a good solution--don't leave food out. They were like little housekeeping reminders. They came out when my garbage and recycle needed to be emptied and let me know when I had crumbs on the floor. They only exist on the ground level.
Quiet:
Never had problems with any noise from outside and I thoroughly enjoyed the nearby Scott Carpenter Park when I needed extra solitude. See below for my thoughts on inside noise.
Quiet pt2:
The walls are thin. I didn't realize this the 1st year because I had a kickass neighbor who made no noise and never complained. The 2nd year I had some b-itch next to me that complained about every little squeak (despite the fact that she played crappy music well into the night when she didn't have to wake up). Bottom line, it's an apartment complex. You're going to have to put up with some noise ... just deal with it and be neighborly.
Deposit:
They witheld exactly what I earned on interest (Boulder mandates that they pay you interest on your deposit). I don't think there was a reason for witholding anything with how well I cleaned it. They just don't like to pay interest I think.
