All sugar and spice until you try to move out

I was a resident of Camden Interlocken for 2 years, holding one of their premium (and most expensive) apartments. In contrast to other reviewers here, my experience was generally quite good, until the last 6 months of my stay. As soon as I didn't immediately re-sign my lease, my maintenance requests went from being answered immediately to the bottom of the pile. My dryer stopped working 3 months before move out and after 5 (!) servicings it still did not work properly. Repaving was done in front of my garage with no notice, leaving me without access to my car for 2 days. The coup de grace of this mess was the horde of hidden fees and fine print in the textbook of the lease they have. Buried in their lease is a statement that you must provide 60 days of notice before moving out. Also buried is a little clause that states that you are obligated to pay rent regardless of their performance upholding the lease! This means that they can cut service (like the exercise room with only one working treadmill for the better part of my stay) or completely remove it (as the case with the garage), and you have no recourse.
I will never rent from another Camden property as long as I live. If you do choose to rent here, don't believe a thing your salesperson tells you. Read through the lease and get any promises in writing.
