Move out was a nightmare

I moved out of Stonegate after deciding to move into a house. I'd say I was a pretty low key tenant and was one of few people that kept their dog on a leash and cleaned up after their poop. It seems those rules didn't apply to all. Snow removal was usually pretty quick; save for the time the wind blew a 10 foot tall drift in front of the lot and I couldn't get out!
One of my 2 biggest complaints are as follows: the maintenance staff usually takes a few tries to get it right. First, my AC was seriously broken. While it did work (at first), water started dripping out of the pipe in the ceiling over the bathtub. At first, it was minimal dripping when the AC kicked off. It later turned into a steady stream that ran all the time the AC was on. It didn't take me long to realize that not only was it dripping water, but the water was filled with rust and was staining the tub. I put a HUGE salad bowl in the tub to collect the water and to minimize the rust stains. I went to the leasing office to get this taken care of and each time, they were very polite about my requests and the maintenance staff came out quickly. But they never fixed it. They did leave a big mess behind which was nice to clean up after a long day at work. I also stated my concerns about the rust stains. I Comet'ed the hell out of the tub and got most of the stains out but there were some that wouldn't budge. I was told by Nina (manager) that since it was a maintenance problem that I wouldn't be held responsible for that damage and even put that in my file. Ha! At about the 6th or 7th maintenance request (and this was in July and the AC now ran 24/7 and didn't cool at all), I lost my patience. And my Xcel bill had jumped up $25 from the AC working overtime. Amazingly, my attitude with their inability to fix my AC finally got through and that time it worked. My washer also died one night...wouldn't do the spin cycle or drain. The response to my request was somewhat quick. After it was "fixed", the completed work order was on my counter saying that the washer was working. So I started it again, washing the clothes that were now reeking of mildew in there. Guess what...it hadn't been fixed...same issue again! I called the office, stating that maintenance had not fixed the issue and some of my clothes were more than likely to be ruined from the mildew. I believe it was a couple days later that a working washer was brought in from one of the empty units.
Come move out time, it was another issue. I gave my full 30 days notice, in writing as well. I was told that my deposit would come in about 2 weeks after move out but was never offered any option to do the walk-thru or see a final walk-thru list. After I had packed everything up and out, I came back and spent about 2 hours seriously cleaning the apartment. Not only to get my deposit back, but because I've moved into places that were filthy and didn't want to leave that for someone. I also worked on the tub again as much as I could. My deposit check came promptly but was about $200 less than what I was expecting. I called to find out what was going on and was told that my file said the apartment was filthy and the bathtub was destroyed. I played phone tag with Nina and some other girl who could seriously use some lessons in being polite. When I spoke with Nina, she said that the apartment "had obviously not been cleaned at all" and the tub was destroyed/stained. She had told me verbatim that the stains to the tub would not be my responsibility due to the AC not working! She wanted to know why I hadn't brought this up during the walk-thru. Stated I had not been told that was an option I could attend. It took another series of phone calls (and speaking to a great woman...can't remember her name but she had dark brown/black hair...maybe hispanic...I'd talked to her face-to-face) before Nina got back to me, saying that the "issues" had been taken care of and I'd be getting the full deposit back.
With the exception of the AC issue and the moving out process, my experience here was good. Although, the maintenance staff did refuse to remove a 6" baby rattlesnake from the sidewalk. I asked to borrow a shovel so I could do it so that no one would get bitten. No, instead it crawled into someone's garage and all the staff did was write a note on their door that there was a snake inside. Real responsible. Make sure you stand your ground if you think they're keeping part of your deposit unfairly!
