Dormitory Life

My friend has lived in The Summit at Flatirons for about a year. I have visited her frequently and though I am not a resident I feel that it is my civic duty to warn people of the issues at my friends place.

First if you are looking to relive your dormitory days this is the place for you! If you are looking to put the days of paper-thin walls and hearing people in the hallways at all hours running and screaming behind you, then stay away from this complex.

The office will try to sell you on the fact that because all buildings have key entry access that you are safer. However, as in my friend??s case, initially this sounds great, but she definitely got more than she bargained for.

First, due to poor construction, you can hear people talking in the hallways as they go by, they are not being loud, but yet you can hear everything. Keep in mind you can still hear the noise from the hallway even in your bedroom! Which brings me to my second point, the walls being paper-thin. The walls are so thin in my friend??s bedroom that she literally woke up one morning thinking the person was in her bedroom. She could hear everything they were saying. Again, the people next to her were not being loud, but again this is just the by-product of shoddy construction.

The third item is the key entry system. Again, something my friend was initially pleased to see, until she realized that in her building people were leaving the side entrance propped open at all hours of the day including into the wee hours of the morning. There also have been many disturbances, between parties that have gone awry, and theft in the parking garage, which as a side note has key entry, but does not work if gates are broken or gates that lead into the garages are broken and not fixed.

Please keep in mind, I realize that no place is perfect, there are always going to be problems and if this place was priced as what students pay to live on the hill then I would not be giving this review, the old saying...you get what you pay for. However, you certainly are not getting what you are paying for. This place is over priced for all the issues that it has.

Best advice stay away, and if you have no other choice then do yourself a favor, pick a fourth floor apartment, a corner unit if at all possible and stay away from building 200 which is known as the problem building, and from the amount of times the Police have had to show up in the course of my friends residence at this place, do stay away from building 200!
