I was unfamiliar with this part of the Springs when I moved into Cobblestone last year. They were running good specials and the office staff seemed very nice. I was told that there would be a community fee of about $35 a month on top of Colorado Springs utilities. Rent was 529/month. Not too shabby. So I moved into a 1 bed 1 bath.
The ladies in the office stopped being nice as soon as my move in day arrived. I was also greeted to my upstairs neighbor sitting on the step with no shirt on smoking a...rolled cigarette'!'!' I am sure my family was so proud as they unloaded my furniture. The $35/month community fee actually turned out to be about $50-55 a month. So I pay roughly $90-120 a month for utilities on a 1 bedroom apartment. There is an ant problem. The complex is noisy and parking is a nightmare for guests. I can hear everything that goes on upstairs due to the apts being poorly insulated. My heat stopped working this winter and I had to wait 3 hours for the maintenance guy to drive down from Briargate. My husband is in Iraq and recently got extended. I needed only a 6 month lease but they wouldn't budge. They told me I could resign for 12 months OR pay $799 a month for a month to month lease. $800 a month PLUS $120 for utilities'''' That's a mortgage. No thanks!
All in all it's not a bad place to live. If you can't find anything else, you won't be *completely* miserable here. But I would suggest looking around. This is the ONLY apartment on Westmeadow and surrounding areas that charges that community fee and you will save yourself some money by avoiding that. Most of the other apartments on the street are WAY more updated as well. I think my appliances are actually from the 70's. My dishwasher actually has wood paneling on it...fancy!!! I don't mean to be a downer, I am just sharing some of the facts that I wish I would have known before I moved in here. Bottom line' I can't wait to get outta here!
