Other reviews are unfairly giving Colony Hills a bad name...it really is a nice place to rent!

I read everyone else's reviews. First of all...ownership of Colony Hills has changed so you can pretty much ignore every rating before 2006. To address a few ratings recently and in 2006...anyone claiming that this is an unsafe place to live needs to remember that we are living in a time that you have to lock you doors and windows no matter where you live. Colony Hills is not unsafe...the world is unsafe. The carpet is not 20 years old. In fact, I had some very nice carpet and flooring(in the kitchen, bathroom, and entry). It was so nice, that we just bought something very close to it (couldn't fine it exactly) for our new home because it doesn't ever look dirty. The appliances in our particular apartment were not brand new but my utilities were lower than any other apartment I have lived in. The heat is AMAZING. The heater would kick on for about a minute and then shut off for hours. The apartment held in the heat so well...our highest bill was $97 (gas and electric)in the coldest part of the winter(when it was around 2-11 degrees out) and after winter our highest bill was $63. We did not live there when it got super hot but when we did use the air conditioner, it didn't stay on for very long and the house stayed cool. There are washer/dryer hook ups but if you don't want to buy/rent a washer and dryer (you rent through a company...not Colony Hills) then no worries because the laundry room is right outside your door...you don't even have to go outside or far away. As far as parking...someone stated that you have to park really far away. Um...never had that problem unless you count really far away being 5 spaces away from the front door. Drive by and look at all the parking available both day and night. We were very happy with the maintenance team...they were very prompt if we did have an issue. I felt very safe with them in my apartment, even while my husband was not there. They are very trustworthy and know what they are doing. Management was respectful towards us. There may be complaints about the Management team but they ARE running a business so you have to consider their need to be forceful in some cases (like if you are trying to pay rent late...I wouldn't expect them to be excited about that). The school (Turman Elementary School) is great. In fact, we bought a house in the same neighborhood just so my kids could continue to attend there. (See greatschools.net shortly for my opinion on Turman Elementary School). Colony Hills is extremely affordable. I looked at a few other places first and was appalled. I had seen Colony Hills online(rent.com)but still looked into those places before I made a final decision. Colony Hills is very clean and not just inside but outside as well. It is very well taken care of. As far as noise...if there are complaints in previous reviews I have to point out that this IS an apartment complex. You are living close to people and sharing walls. Colony Hills can't possibly be held responsible for that...everyone should know what they are getting themselves into already. If you want complete peace and quiet then you should rent or buy a home. Someone else said there is a large turn over rate. If people are moving in and out that fast then it is because they are not living up to their end of the deal...usually you sign a lease and it's longer than one month so people moving in and out in that amount of time are probably not paying rent and ditching Colony Hills...not the kind of neighbors I would want so I wouldn't complain about it. Also...it being affordable gives families the ability to save and buy a home if they want. You are not trapped by high rent so you have the ability to improve your lifestyle and live in comfort while doing it. If we had not just bought our first home, we would have stayed at Colony Hills Apartments. I am happy that we chose Colony Hills as our last apartment complex to live in...we feel like we ended apartment life on a good note.
