Cons:
1. They have an exterminator come in every couple months and put a gooey pesticide bait under the sinks. This really irritated me because I have a cat, and she likes to get in the cabinets(she can open them). I told them I had never seen a bug in this apartment and didn't want pesticides. Their reply was,"It's mandatory." This kind of thing really frustrates me.
2. When I moved in, the maintenance person had put powdered cleaning chemicals in the carpet and had not vacuumed it out. I've lived here for six months, vacuumed the carpet dozens of times, and I've given up on ever being able to get it all out. My hair, skin and clothes smell of this cleaner. When I moved in I quickly discovered the reason for putting it down in the first place was that the carpet smells of mildew and they were trying to cover it up. Also, the drains were really gross when I moved in and I had to pour strong drain cleaner down them several times.
3. The day after I moved in I found some black mold under the kitchen sink against the dry wall. I left a note at the office telling them about it, and about a full week went by before someone came. He was carrying a little can, and when I asked him what it was, he said, "it's, uh, mold killer stuff." I asked if I could see it, so he reluctantly handed it to me- it was a can of white spray paint.
4. Typical cheap apartment stuff, like the lock on my front door is a piece of crap and it's always either jamming or hard to get the key in, my bathroom door doesn't shut unless you lean on it and throw your body weight against it(it makes a loud squeaky protest but finally closes), and the appliances are really old and low quality.
However:
1. The rent is cheap and utilities are fairly low.
2. It's at least better than some of the surrounding complexes. They're much more careful about who they let live here, so it feels a little safer.
3. It's quiet. I was really surprised that so many commented on the noise, because that's one problem I haven't had.
