Really not a great place to live

I agree with another reviewer that it is a LOUD place. Just about everyone seems to have a dog, and VOCAL dogs they are. My neighbor kept a dog locked in her bathroom for 8 hours per day, howling and barking. Took 6 weeks before the issue was resolved. Additionally, the walls are PAPER THIN. I hear every footstep, toilet flush, shower, door opening/closing, cabinet door opening/closing of the neighbor above me, and I wouldn't say she is excessively loud. It's just impossible to maintain peace and quiet considering the walls. It's so bad, that even normal conversation can be heard through the walls.
Cleanliness is another issue, both with regards to the dogs, and the owners. The grassy areas are covered with feces. There's a decent amount of trash around also. Maintenance does a good job keeping the grounds clean of garbage, but the dog droppings aren't picked up.
The apt I'm in was obviously rented by a pet owner, the floors stinks of urine. I've complained, but nothing has been done. I can't even turn my heat on or the carpet smells up the entire apartment. They obviously put in new carpet before I moved in but probably didn't bother changing the pad, or cleaning the subfloor. It is disgusting.
Parking is a nightmare; there simply aren't enough spots. Space is a premium due to the way the buildings are situated. There are covered spots, but there is a waiting list, despite the fact that I've yet to see some of the spots ever have a vehicle parked on them. The apt complex is annoyingly difficult to enter/leave as well, due to automated gates.
Forget finding reasonable prices on utilities. You are locked into DirecTV and some wireless Internet provider. After 6 weeks I gave up trying to sign up for the wireless internet, they don't pickup their phone or return calls. Electrical, water, and sewer are expensive as well.
Unfortunately I picked the Knolls over the Internet so I couldn't comparison shop in person. After spending several weeks in the Springs, and also talking to co-workers, I can say there definitely are better alternatives.
As for pluses, the area is nice and its conveniently located near the mountains. The buildings are well maintained, but they are simply old and out-dated. The apartment staff are friendly but aren't quick to follow up on problems and issues. An education discount is available, which helps makes the whole package easier to swallow.
Overall it has been a real disappointment and I regret having signed even a 9 month lease. I'm looking forward to the lease expiring and, to be honest, I'll gladly pay a little bit more to rent from one of the nicer complexes in the area.
