Its been awhile since I lived there but we never had any issues with the apartment or neighborhood. Never once heard gunshots, maybe we were lucky. I wouldnt go out and about at night alone though.
Only complaint I had was the heat in the winter was too hot. I didn't enjoy not being able to control it myself. That and my upstairs neighbors sounded like they had elephants running around their apartment constantly.
