looks can be deceiving....

Just because the buildings look good, doensn't mean it is good...
We had the worst rental experience of our lives at Falcon Pointe:
-all maintenance to be done to the apartment prior to move-in was still not done when we moved-out 4 months later.
-we lived in the apartment during winter and falcon pointe refused to weather strip the windows, thus causing us to pay an enormous electric bill, because the heat was escaping around the windows and door. it was so bad that we had to wear mittens while using the computer that sat near the bedroom window.
-there were bugs! they were eating through the door frame and coming in the house. little, purple worm-like bugs - uugghh! it took 3 complaints for falcon pointe to send and exterminator.
-the hot-tub was always either broke or being cleaned every time we tried to use it.
-falcon pointe did not provide snow and ice removal in the winter! we have a mustang and getting out of that parking lot without damaging our car or someone elses' was almost impossible.
-a Christmas package containing approx. $100.00 worth of gifts was sent to us from my husband's grandmother in south carolina. the gift never came, so she tracked it through the shipping service. they verified that debbie collins, property manager, signed for the package a few days before Christmas. when approached with this matter, ms. collins claimed that she never saw the package, even though she signed for it. because, my husband's grandmother did not insure the package, we were simply out of luck.
-replacing the water warped, balcony storage shed door was one of maintenance items to be addressed prior to move-in. the door was so warped that a cat or small dog could crawl under the door and inside the shed. my husband is in the Army and stored his gear in the shed, because we had a jr. one bedroom which did not have enough space inside for the gear. well, mice got into the she and ate through his gear. so, we had to replace the eaten gear out of our own pocket, after losing many arguments with the manager. and, if any of you are in the military, then you know how expensive that gear is!!!!
-the staff was very rude and very unhelpful. i am sorry, but working at an apartment complex, be it as manager, maintenance worker, or secretary, you are not the hottest, baddest thing in town! the staff had such an ego/attitude problem, i just couldn't believe it!
There is more, but that is the jist of it.
If you are looking for a good apartment, don't base it on looks and location alone. We lived at Windmill Apartments and it was wonderful. It was affordable, free cable, excellent maintenance, curtious and welcoming staff, clean facilities... Yea, it wasn't in the best of neighborhoods, but in the city there are many wonderful neighborhoods anywhere... Also, don't exclude houses. You may think that they are out of your price range, but a lot of them are actually the same price as apartments! Plus, if you get some friends together, it would really be a smart move!
