DON'T LIVE HERE...unless you enjoy being sick, having things stolen, or paying high rent for a cheap apartment!

Before I lived here, I was rarely sick! While living in these apartments, I was sick almost every month with some kind of respiratory infection and eventually things began to get worse. I visited the hospital more than once due to inhaling pigeon poop dust, feather dust, etc--- because the birds were living in my ceiling above my heating/ac vents. The last time I went to the hospital I was given doxycycline (a med that treats psittacosis-infection due to bird droppings). Finally doctors told me to move out! Office management told me there was nothing they could do about the pigeons living in my ceiling because they are a part of "nature"! Sweet, huh' I had to break my lease because of my illness and they made me pay one and a half months rent--plus utility/water bills for the rest of the month and they charged me 1200.00 to replace the carpet because I had a pet. The pigeon problem was so bad that it was to the point I couldn't open my patio door for fresh air or even go sit out there because to do that, I'd have to scrub and disinfect my deck due to all the feathers and pigeon poop splattered all over it. They can't deny it because I have pictures as proof!
Management is HORRIBLE!!!! They are phony, candy coated, shallow people! When you are looking to sign a lease they are bubbly, bend over backwards for you kind of people. After you sign, you really begin to see their true colors. After my lease was signed, the lady in the office told me I really needed to smile more. She's saying this to me at 11am, after no sleep and I had driven 3 days to Colorado with a max of 4 hrs sleep per night! The office staff lack overall professionalism in every way possible and are just rude and childish. I kindly asked one of the staff for the corporate number because of pigeon problem and she told me to look it up myself and hung up the phone. C'mon now! Is that really how business is handled'
At the lease signing you have to sign a paper saying that if you slip and fall in the complex that they are not liable. Its funny how they make you sign the paper but do little to combat the snow and ice during storms. I lived on the third floor and many times the stairs were covered with snow and ice for days and noone made any attempt to ever shovel them. Ice melt was used on occasion on the regular walkway...but the scarce amount that was thrown down never helped--- so they shouldn't have even bothered!
When I moved in I had informed management (and it was noted in my folder) that I did not want anyone in my apartment when I wasn't home. On numerous occasions they were in there without my consent. On one occasion my Ipod was stolen and I found some of my jewelry outside on my patio table--which is next to the closet for the water heater! FYI-My front door was locked when I came home and I was on the third floor. The next day after I called to report the ipod stolen and jewelry outside. I found it very ironic that one of the staff said someone had "found" the Ipod and that I could come get it in the office. Were they going to call me and tell me it was in the office' My name (first and last) is engraved on the back of the Ipod. When I got into the office, I asked if they could tell me the name of the person who had found the ipod was so that I could thank them. I was told they could not give out names. Ironic, isn't it'
About the apartment. Cabinets in desk area, kitchen, and bathroom are cheap plywood with "wood look" contact paper over them. It peels off. Microwave was crooked when I moved in. There is absolutely NO counter space in the kitchen, and ordinary things (box of cereal, a can of PAM spray, or pans) don't fit. If they do, you have to lay them on their side. Pantry isn't much help.
Bathroom had paint splatters all over everything. Doors to closet didn't shut right. Shower curtain rod was cracked.
Bedroom doors (including one into bathroom) didn't lock because they weren't hung right.
Study/Laundry room doors wouldn't shut and would fall off the track.
Walls are thin. You can hear EVERYTHING and EVERYONE! People do not realize this and turn their music and TV up loud, talk loud outside their apartment doors, slam their doors and are just not considerate. Living here, you will have a complaints from neighbors...even if you aren't loud...or you aren't even in the state of Colorado at the time! I know I did!
There was a leak in the roof after a big snowstorm and I ended up with a large stain on the ceiling and wall in the bedroom over the door. I was out of state when it happened. When I came back I immediately notified the complex. They said they would send someone to fix it. They never did and tried to blame me for it upon move out. I wouldn't doubt mold was growing behind the wall either.
Don't ever get anything on the wall or even try to wipe the walls. You will take the paint off with just a damp paper towel, and a little pressure. Don't even bother asking maintenance for touch up paint. They will give it to you but will also tell you that you won't ever be able to match it so not to even bother. They use a sprayer to paint and they are under obligation to water down the paint to save money.
Carpet is supposedly "upgraded". Upgraded from what...plywood' It's the cheapest of the cheap! Mine didn't meet the wall in any corner. It was pieced together and fraying! The smallest things like dirt from the parking lot will stain it since its white even if you religiously vacuum and steam clean it. You will pay to have a new rug installed upon move out. If you have a pet, be assured you WILL pay at least 1200.00 for new rugs--I did. Apartment is furnished with "lovely" (yuck!) FLIMSY floor to ceiling metal mini blinds that bend if you open the window and the wind blows hard. If you bend them, they are permanently creased and there is no way of fixing them. At move out, they'll try to get you for those, too.
Windows are NOT energy efficient at all. When it was windy you can see the mini blinds move/sway even when the windows are shut and locked! They are VERY COLD in the winter! Plan on having your heat on 80 degrees, still being cold, and having an enormous utility bill!
I had to install my own weather stripping on the front and patio door. Sitting in my dining room looking out at the front door, I could see the walkway through a huge crack between the door and the door frame. Same with patio door.
Parking is ridiculous--if you aren't home between 9am and 4pm on a weekday, plan on parking far from your building. There should be special arrangements in the winter for people with motorcycles. They take up prime spots during the winter months. If you try to bring this to managements attention they tell you to spend more money (on top of the already outrageous rent) on a carport or garage to insure you have a spot! Some people in my building had 3 cars and a motorcycle and there was no restriction against this. FYI- I only had one vehicle and parking was still hairy.
Pet stations are not kept up. They do not use pet friendly fertilizer and tell you to take your pet elsewhere to go to the bathroom until the fert. sinks in. And really..when does it rain in Colorado enough for the fertilizer to fully sink in' To replace poop pick up bags takes weeks. In the mean time, people let their dogs go all over the lawn and then don't pick it up! My dog is an inside dog who rarely goes for walks and mostly only leaves the house to go to the bathroom. He got Giardia and worms (both parasites) from being out there! Wastebaskets are emptied maybe once/week when they are busting with waste out the top. Gross.
The breed restriction is ridiculous. It didn't apply to me because my dog wasn't a restricted breed. However, they make a huge deal about it don't allow certain breeds but apparently don't know what the restricted breeds look like either. They don't allow German Shepherds, Chows, Dalmatians, Belgian Malinois (related to and looks like a German Shepherd), Dobermans, or Rottweilers. Funny how when walking my dog, a German Shepherd on the first floor of one of the buildings nearly attacked my dog and I by running out an open door and nearly jumping the patio railing before the owner ran out and brought it into the house. It was also funny when a lady in the building across from me informed me that her dog was a German shepherd mix. Talon Hill made me call my vet to verify that my German Shorthaired Pointer was not a German Shepherd! Vet thought I was joking and didn't return my call. Talon Hill wouldn't let me resign my lease and told me my dog wasn't allowed in my apartment until they found out the answer to this question. They had to contact the vet themselves to verify! Vet then called me back after they talked to the complex and thought it was a joke! We actually had a good laugh about it.
You want the good parts of living here' Nothing. Anything 'good' I can say about it is about the area--- and you can get that living in other complex's in district 20! It's a pretty safe district. The views are pretty good if you live up high, and the weather is always nice. That's about it! You can find all this down the road for a lot less!
And remember---PET FRIENDLY IS **NOT** PET FRIENDLY AT ALL! TRUST ME ON THIS ONE! You will have lots of complaints and a huge bill at the end!
This place is horrible and these people a waste of my time...nuff said!

Why are your unfortunate bird allergies the fault of Talon Hill? Or the fact that you tracked dirt in from outside to stain your ivory carpet? Have you considered removing your shoes at the door, Jethro?
