If you like to be sexually harassed by maintenance workers, your property stolen , your patio furniture vomited on by your upstairs neighbor, broken promises from the head of property management, leaky water heater that you have asked to be repaired multiple times that has grown mold, that has made your patio unlivable, then the Vineyards of Colorado Springs is the place for you.
My wife and I moved in June 07 and renewed our lease on April 08. These were the two biggest mistakes of our lives. We looked around at their demo apartment and were told how great their gates were. Let me tell you about that gate in the front. I didn t know how it worked because I got a remote for the gate and never use the key pad. However, there is only ONE code for the gate and every pizza boy and his dog has it.
Right after we moved in June 07, we had extremely noisy neighbors on the second floor. We were getting ready to move out when our lease was up and before we had to make a decision, they moved out. So, everything was quiet, finally. We decided to renew our lease in April of 08. We should have left when we could.
When May 08 came around, my wife and I decided to go bike riding. Well, when we went to the storage unit, we found our door to the unit had its hinges taken right off and the bikes and some tools were stolen. The thieves left the Phillips head screwdriver behind that they used to break in. I was actually surprised that they had to use a tool. The door locks are like the ones you would purchase from Home Depots door knobs department for bedrooms. Well, we went to the office and told the person who claimed to be the manager of the week (they change management here every other day it seems) and she said two things - we had another individual who had his stuff stolen just the other day and I hope you have renters insurance. Now I ask, Why wasn t I notified that there were items being stolen in the complex' They could have sent out a letter or even posted something in the mail room to let people know what happened. They just didn t care to let us know and they have made absolutely no changes to the locks on the storage units to update their security.
On a side note, to the thief or thieves that sole our stuff if you are reading this, you don t have to worry about the screw driver that was left behind. When Colorado Springs Police Department came to the unit, they picked up the screwdriver and threw it into their trunk of their squad car. In less than a week of filing the report, they sent me a letter telling me that they had no leads, even though you left the screw driver behind. I m sure it is being used to fix their squad cars and I m probably going to take a tax write off for a donation to CSPD. So, to say thank you, just pretend that I m giving you $500 dollars for your efforts for taking my bikes and tools because that is what I m going to pay the insurance for my items.
Also about around the March/April time frame, we got a notice on the door that somebody was coming to inspect the water heater and make sure it was okay. Well, they came in and said it was leaking. Well, then about the middle of April, we got another notice that they were coming around again to recheck the water heater, and again, they said it was leaking.
Well things really got bad a few days ago. I didn t want to say anything because I wanted to give the new management staff a chance. Well, they are just as incompetent as the last ones.
We got a notice on our door on a Friday that we would have a worker come by and change out the filter to the air conditioner on Monday. Well, nobody came. Then on Tuesday, we get a knock on the door. Well, it was a worker that my wife has never seen before and I was in the kitchen and couldn t be seen by him. Well, he started to talk to my wife and say, Should I spank her, should I spank her, should I spank her, should I spank her' four times to the dog. Our dog is little and he really wouldn t be much of a fight, and again, he didn t know that I was there. I walked out of the kitchen and gave him a dirty look. Again, we have no idea who this guy is, we never met him before and my wife had no idea how to take it, she was beside herself. This leads you to think, good thing that I was there, no telling what might of happened if I wasn t.
So, I called the office and talked to the manager of the complex and told her what happened. She acted like I was totally wrong to think anything. Well, instead of saying what he did, I could of thought of many other things that he could have said like, how is your day going, what kind of dog do you have, or perhaps my personal favorite, Is there anything wrong with your apartment that we need to address'
I asked the manager on the phone how long does it take to get a water heater fixed' She told me that I wasn t on the list to get it fixed, even though I had two individuals come to the apartment and get it looked at. Well, she told me she would get back to me and tell me when they would come and fix it.
Well, she called back and left a message on my answering machine that they would be here on Friday, July 25, 2008, in the morning. Well, it is 5:00pm and there is nobody here and I ve been waiting all day for them. Also, there is mold growing on the inside of the closet where the water heater is at. The lint vent for the dryer is above the patio and so anything that comes out of it, hits the ground and gets soak and wet. You can t even breathe out there because of the smell.
The other night, my neighbors above me decided to have a party until around 2 in the morning. This of course is during the week and not on the weekend, so my wife couldn t sleep from the noise. Well, the next day, I went outside to check the vent to make sure that no lint was coming out from it and my dog came outside with me without me knowing it. I saw him under my patio chairs that I have outside and he looked like he was eating something. I told him to come back in. About 15 to 20 mins after that, he wanted to go outside on the patio again. I told him no and went out to see if there was a dead bird or something. Well, during their party upstairs, somebody vomited over the rail of the balcony and got it all over my fence and my patio furniture. I told the manager about it and I told her I thought it was unfair that I would have to clean that up. Again, she promised me that there would be somebody there today (Friday, July 25, 2008) in the morning to take care of it. Well, I ll let you guess its 5:00pm and nobody came to clean it up and I ve been here all day. So, I have vomit on my furniture and fence that is attracting bug and adds to the smell of the unlivable patio.
Also, there is a city ordinance that requires people to have their dogs on a leash and they don t enforce it. There have been many times that I have been outside walking my dog and have met a bigger dog that their owner didn t have on a leash. I ve also gotten out of my car to an unleashed dog barking at me like they were going to attack. Good thing that they listen to their owners because no telling what would have happened.
I would highly recommend that you DO NOT MOVE IN HERE!!! I m sending pictures of the current issues that I spoke about here (water heater, vomit, mold). If incompetent management is okay with you, then this is your type of place. My wife and I pay almost $1,000 a month and this place and it is ran like a $300 a month slum. It looks nice on the outside, but don t purchase a book by its cover and especially don t listen to those in the office because they are just trying to lease the units. DON T MOVE IN!!!

I lived there from July, 2003-July 2004 and NOTHING has changed!!! They sent me to collections for a bill that I didn't even owe. They claimed there were damages and I broke the 1 year lease, both of which are completely not true. I feel sorry for anyone who has ever lived there. The Vineyards of Colorado Springs is the worst place I have EVER lived!!!

I still live there and I'm finally getting out in September!! The noise is horrible, i live on the 2nd floor out of 3. Not only do my upstairs neighbors throw parties on weeknights, but if you call to complain all they do is tell you to call the CSPD and they don't do a thing.
The management is horrible. We originally had a smaller 2 bedroom apartment and decided to upgrade. We put down a deposit on a larger apartment, only to find out that a week before our move-in date they said they'd "accidentally" rented our apartment out to someone else (and we had put down the deposit 4 weeks prior). So we stayed in our old apartment 2 extra weeks and agreed to move into another unit once it was ready. 1 day before the move-in date they called to tell us that they couldn't let us move in because the contractors never came to clean the carpets and paint. I had taken the entire weekend off to move - so not only did we not get to move in, but I didn't get my normal shifts at work and lost money. We finally moved in the following week. The next issue that came up was when I paid my rent I clearly wrote my new apartment number on the check under the memo section. But whoever is in charge of rent decided not to look at that and applied it to my old apartment number. Then they threatened to take us to collections for our rent and charge us the difference of our rent and the market value rent. I suggest getting a receipt each month when you pay rent - these people don't know how to run a business or keep records of anything.
This is by far the worst place i've ever lived... I'm anxious to finally move out!!

I couldn't agree more with these complaints. I completely and utterly regret renting in this complex. I also have a complaint about sexual harrassment. I moved in February 2008. On Valentine's day, 2008, one of the maintenance guys came over to fix something and told me, not asked, told me, "why it's Valentine's Day! You are going to be my Valentine!" he then bear hugged me as if it was his right. I was taken aback and then told him that he shouldn't have done that and that my fiance, who was out of town, would be very upset to know that he did. The maintenance man then told me, with no apology or remorse, that he would inform my fiance himself of his actions. He never came forward to my fiance and I then feared being anywhere on the grounds by myself. I was too scared to say anything to anybody also. My fiance still does not know and all I want to do is get out of my lease. I have never been happy with the way this place has been run. I also keep getting a notice to pay for a dog that I have never owned while living here. I would really appreciate getting together with other tenants that are very unhappy and take actions against this company.
Sincerely,
Kelly Fredrickson

I'm so glad you all are posting this because it does look nice according to the website. These are terrible things to deal with especially when military families like myself have short time to call places home. ABSOLUTE THANK YOU for not letting me consider this place =]

Thank you so much for your posting. I have been sexually harrassed by the maintainence man here and as you experienced the management here makes excuses and does not address the damage that he has done to tenants here. I would appreciate you speaking to me about your past experience. Please contact me at chapsters@comcast.net
