I moved into the apartments at denver place in early 2007. The location is not the greatest for downtown, but, the apartment was new, so the rent seemed fair. When discussing the lease length, the girls at reception told me that when my lease expires, I can just continue on the same rent month to month, paying $100 per month administration fee.
I travel a great deal for business, so I only used the apartment about 2 weekends per month for the first 8 months of my lease, and then I was away internationally for the next 6 months, not using the apartment. I paid every month's rent early. I own some properties elsewhere, so I would think of my situation as the perfect tennant. Landlord gets their rent, and the apartment sees very little use.
I called up the office before the end of my lease, to say I was still international, and wanted to stay month to month after the lease expired. The girls agreed, and said that I would have to pay the extra $100 per month admin fee for not being on a lease. This seemed fair.
When I returned to the apartment, I was preparing to sign a new lease, so I entered the office to inquire about it. The girls informed me that the rent had risen $100 per month, so I would have to pay the same rent. I said fine, print out a new 6 month lease, and I will sign it.
The girls also said, because my lease expired, they organised a carpet cleaner for my apartments. I asked whether this costs me anything, they said no, it was what they do when you last a full lease.
When my lease was printed and given to me over a week later. I read it, and was shocked to find my rent was rising by 50%!!! The lease explicitly stated a 50% more per month rent, and then had a clause saying I had a discount, if I signed my lease for 6 months. Ie, I would have a rent raise of $100 per month for the length of my lease, and then 50% raise at the end of 6 months.
I promptly found another apartment, and moved out. Still in a bit of shock, that the company would operate in this manner. I figured who cares, it is there loss, and in the current property market, I found a much better place for cheaper than my original rent.
Then my final invoice came to me. On it, I am being charged for the carpet clean that I never requested, an additional cleaning charge of $125 (even though the building cleaner charges $65 to clean an apartment), and my final rent is overstated by $20. So I am being overcharged out of my bond, by $135.
Basically, these scum, see that I have a good job, and tried to first gouge me on my rent, and then skimmed my bond an amount that is enough to annoy me, but too small to take effective legal action. I have just been left a little out of pocket, but I am very angry at what I consider very poor human behaviour.
I just prefer to live somewhere where I can be relaxed that my landlord will not try to screw me. Ironically, I have contact with many corporate renters in Denver, and I am letting most know of my experience at Denver place.

I had so much trouble with them overcharging me when I moved out as well and was unable to get any of it back. They are extremely friendly and helpful until you move out and then they screw you.
