Be careful when signing your lease, shady business practices occur at The Bentley

Our experience started out very positive when agreeing to sign a 3 month lease with the Bentley. While discussing our options with the Bentley we were told by the rental agent, who is longer with the Bentley (Camel Partners), that we would be allowed to sign a 3 month lease and at any point extend the lease to 1 yr and be credited for the months spent at the Bentley (for example: the 3 month lease would be rolled into a 1 yr lease and we would actually be signing the second lease for 9 months). In addition we were told if we agreed to a 6 month or 1 yr lease, the rent rate would be decreased since we were currently paying roughly $150.00 per month over the average rental rate to have a 3 month lease (roughly $1005.00). It is important to note that for a rental rate of $1000.00 plus , we have a view of a juvenile detention center including barbed wire and all the aesthetic beauty that comes with living across from a prison type setting on the perimeter of the property at the Bentley. Unfortunately we relocated from out of state and forgot to ask if a prison/juvenile detention center was located 500 yards from the property at the Bentley.
Within a week of moving into the Bentley we confirmed with a new rental agent that we would be able to extend our lease at anytime and be credited for the 3 months already signed (example, 1 yr lease would actually be a 9 month lease). As our 3 month lease was ending, we were horrified to find out that our lease would actually be increasing and the extra $150.00 that we were paying would not be deducted from the average rental rate. We were also told that the Bentley would not honor the 3 months and roll the 3 months into the 1 yr lease. Overall due to the shady business practices conducted by the Bentley (Camel Partners) we are now paying over $1,000 plus for a "new" 6 month lease even though we were told our rent would go down.
Beware that your rent will go up significantly at the Bentley and do not believe any statements that the rental agents tell you without getting it in writing. We are honest hard-working people and never realized that the Bentley would deny any statements they made basically to just get us in the door and rent an apartment. If you think for any reason that you may extend your lease beyond your initial agreement, save yourself the heartache and aggravation and rent from a different rental agency. For out of state renters, be sure to ask any future rental agents if a prison or detention center is located near the property.
