It's okay.

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
I have lived at Buchtel Park Apartments for 7 months in the year 2007. The pros: lots of space, the apt. stayed relatively cool in the summer without me having to blast the a/c all the time, the neighborhood is safe (I used to go for walks or bike rides late at night and no one ever bothered me), walking distance to light rail, close to DU. The cons: the apt. layout, the quality and speed of repairs, mice in the unit, one thin wall - could hear the neighbor next door.
The building is "secure" meaning, if you leave home without the building entrance key, you may have to wait a while to get into the building. Although, it is not uncommon for the front doors to be propped open at any time of the day or the night. So, anyone can get in.
Their pool is nice, but the gym sucks. Half the equipment is not working. The hallways are both good and bad. It's good that you can walk through the hallway to get to the laundry room, to the mailboxes, the office, etc. instead of having to go outside (especially when the weather is bad). However, the hallways were pretty smelly. Some days they smelled like curry, other days, like my neighbor's stinky litter box.
I have lived in two other apt. complexes and I like Buchtel Park better than those two. It is not a great place to live, but it is not bad either. I guess it depends on how much you care about the things I mentioned above. I would have stayed there if they didn't raise the rent (from $580 to 650 a month) and if my ex wasn't living there.
