A Jem in the Apartment World

I have lived in this apartment for a little over a year and a half. While I have not previously rented, I am not sure I would want to be anywhere else!

Parking: There is one assigned spot per apartment, including two bedrooms. However, there is ample parking with plenty of guest spaces. They have garages you can rent for an additional fee, which is a huge plus in the winter, and if you have a motorcycle. The garages are usually always rented, so you may have to plan ahead and get on a waiting list, but it is really nice to have the option.

Noise: The noise is not bad at all. With that, I will say I live on the top floor, so I have not experienced having people above me. But...I never hear anyone! The only thing I occasionally hear is a faint phone ring. I took away a star because the side of the apartment I live on is right next to the road, so keep that in mind if you sleep on the light side. I've gotten used to the background noise when sleeping, so it doesn't bother me, but you will hear ambulances going by at different hours of the night and loud cars and motorcycles.

Grounds: Well kept. I don't notice it too much, but that is probably because it is never an eyesore. A company does come by and cut the grass every now and then, and the plants are watered.

Safety: This is a great place to live, and does feel safe. The parking lot is not the brightest at night, but I've not heard about a car being broken into since I've been here. Sometimes you will hear people yelling on the sidewalk at night, but other than that, everything looks good. It has a very simple, quaint atmosphere that lends itself well to a nice, safe feeling community.

Construction: If I was nitpicking, this category would probably suffer the most, but that's just because the buildings are old, simply put. No fancy fountains or marble countertops. But it is very utilitarian, and gets the job done. Everything works, and works well. Walls are not paper thin! Showers heat up right away! No complaints, and while its not the best looker, it has it where it counts.

Maintenance: Excellent, period. Any time I've had a problem, the maintenance crew has been on it right away, and it has been completely fixed. Top marks for efficiency and quality of work.

Staff: The best. Kent is very personable, the kind of manager you can form a great resident/manager relationship with. Staff is very flexible, and works with you and your situation to take care of you. I don't care if you live in the nicest place, if the management is poor, you will regret living there. Its great to be able to go into the office to discuss an issue and just end up hanging out there for a while simply because you got into a good conversation with the office staff. Best of the best, they are awesome, and very professional.

Overall: Excellent. I love living here. Management is family-owned, and it shows - a pleasure to work with. The location is great, right on the edge of the foothills, and from my observation, very kid-friendly, with schools and several parks nearby. The rates are reasonable, and again, the staff works with you to help get you the best deal. When I first moved in, my roommate and I wanted a 2-bedroom. They didn't have one available for a few weeks, so we stayed in a one-bedroom at no charge until one opened up. If you sign on for something (like a garage) in the middle of the month, they will pro-rate it for you instead of charging you up the wazoo for the whole month. The deposit fees are extremely reasonable. The two bedroom apartments have w/d hookups, and you have the option of having a w/d installed for a small monthly fee -very nice offering.

Like I said before, the apartments are old, and some of the windows don't seal perfectly, so don't expect the Taj Mahal, but everything works, and if it doesn't, the staff will take care of you. The mailboxes are somewhat small, and the numbering of the apartments is a little goofy, so you have to be aware to write down the right number when you put your address on forms.

For everything this apartment lacks, it more than makes up for in quality of service, excellence of management, and a great experience in quaint, simplistic apartment living.
