after living at garfield park, i would never recommend this place to anyone, not even my worst enemy. the place is a joke quite frankly. for starters, the management and owner have no idea what they are doing. you can never find anyone in the office during hours. there are no amenities whatsoever, the parking is unbearable, and the people running the place are so rude! they act like youre bothering them if you have a concern or need something fixed..and it generally takes anywhere between 5-7 days to get anything fixed anyway! the water is CONSTANTLY turned off, sometimes with only minutes notice and its normally off for hours at a time. they ask for tenants patience, but when you get a bill on your door for 3 months worth of utilities they seem to have forgotten the word patience, expecting full payment within days. really pathetic. the manager thinks she is an R.A. at a college dorm, patrolling the halls for anyone misbehaving. she interrogates people visitors if she runs into them in the hall or the one elevator that breaks down all the time. im sure nobody renews their lease, people are constantly moving out. and whats worse, is that the only good reviews about this apartment is from the manager herself! trying to make the place sound good. hah! believe me, if this many people have had horrifying experiences here at garfield park, then i am quite sure you will too!

It sounds like management is in over their heads here. You (pookie) may be a resident, but you sound like the manager. When you have the same problems come up across several reviews, things need to change. Also, you may want to put in some line breaks, as your above post is hard to read. What was your response to the tenant who was charged $2000 in move-out fees?

It sounds like "Pookie" loves living here but must never take a shower or leave the apartment. How else would she not know that the water is turned off all the time and that the elevator is a death trap? She must never have heard the fights next door through the paper thin walls. Or had to deal with the freaky, passive aggressive on-site manager. Who will try to take every dime from you.

For the record, I'm not the manager, just a resident. Most often, I have found that the people coming to these sites to complain were too unwilling to bring the issue to the attention of managemet, whether that be the building manager or the owner. People want something for nothing, and don't like being told "no" or being held responsible for their actions.
I've noticed that it is pretty easy to sign up repeatedly and leave numerous anonymous reviews, so "several" reviews may just be one or two people. Who knows. My point is that I live here, I ride the elevator, I take showers, I don't hear fights through the walls, and these problems the anonymous poster (maybe posters, but doubtful) brings up are quite exaggerated.
I can't speak to the individual charged $2000 in move-out fees since I don't know their situation, but a lot of people in general think they can live like slobs, not keep their pets from messing on the carpets, not pay their utilities, and just move out and leave the landlord with the problems. It doesn't work that way in the real world, and Garfield Park is no different. Being held responsible for ones actions can be a costly lesson at times. If, for some reason, we get charged some outrageouly unfair move-out fee, or don't get our deposit back, I'll revise this post. But, so far, we have been treated fairly and reasonably by both management and staff here, and I don't see any reason why that wouldn't continue unless we become bad tenants.
Quite simply, it is one of those situations where you would need to come down and see the building, talk to the owner and manager, and just see for yourself. You should do that anyway if you are going to be living somewhere, rather than relying on the opinions of anonymous posters. My intent in posting was to set the record straight on Garfield Park: my experiences have been nothing like these anonymous posters, not even remotely. So, I would say to come and take a tour before you write off Garfield Park. I do not think it is at all like the anonymous poster has made it out to be.
