The apartments themselves are not too bad, unless you have to deal with the front office. On one occasion after living in the complex for 10 months and never paying my rent late, I had accidentally forgotten to drop the rent off when it was due. The next day I dropped it off and was told I would be charged a $50 late fee. After explaining my situation and asking if the fee could be waived just this one time the manager of the complex had flat out refused to waive the fee. I thought it a little strange that given my circumstances she would refuse to waive this fee, so I explained that my lease was up in two months and that I wanted the 30 day notice paperwork that is required to move out of the complex. Thinking that there might be some sort of an offer made (maybe get the $50 fee waived) or at least an attempt to try and keep me from moving or question of if there is a reason why I was leaving, but none came. So, on my way out of the office I turned to and said more to the office as a whole than any particular person that it was nice doing business with them.
Now I??m not real sure what they thought they heard, but 15 minutes later I got a threatening phone call from the front office saying that if I ever used that kind of language in the front office again that she would be forced to call the police. At this point I was furious, but being the customer service representative that I was at the time, I knew that showing I was upset would get me no where. So I remained calm and explained to her what I had said when I left the office, which she in turn called me a liar and refused to apologize for her unnecessary threat. As I??m sure you can imagine I was a little more frustrated after being treated like a criminal by someone I was only expecting to have a professional conversation with. So, I asked for and contacted her manager regarding the situation. He was very apologetic and in the end did waive the $50 late fee, but after the ridiculously unnecessary headache that was involved I was determined to move out, and when my lease was up I did.
Only the problems did not stop there. After moving out of the apartment complex and finally being free, or so I thought, I receive a letter in the mail a few months later from a lawyer??s office stating that I was being charged over $1200 for things such as: replacing the carpet ($800), an 8 hour oven cleaning at $10 an hour ($80, and they probably only turned on the ovens self clean feature for 8 hours), $50 for a small hole accidentally punched in the wall by a box when moving in (understandable), and the rest was charged for remaining rent which I shouldn??t have owed due to the date I moved out, as well as other various cleaning and replacement charges. I didn??t have a final walkthrough done, which was not smart on my part because now I was dealing with the incompetence of the apartment complex??s lawyer instead of that which is employed by Asher Investments and working in the complex itself. When all was said and done the lawyer refused to budge on the price even after explaining that I was being charged for things that I should not.
So here I am almost a year and a half later and I??m still slowly paying off this fee at a rate of $100 per month. I obviously would not recommend this apartment complex to anyone!
