abusive rental policies

I signed a lease in October, '08 with Highline on Cherry Creek after relocating from out of state to take a job. However, after 3 wks. I was laid off by my employer due to the current economy. I immediately informed the Highline lease manager, asking if I could move out early, assuming suitable terms are worked out. But I was told in no uncertain terms that I was liable for the entire length of the lease.
I said that it would be almost impossible to pay this. However, was told I would be evicted, and still charged for the remaining 2 mos. of the lease which run more than 1,100 per mo. for a 1 bedroom, along with penalties.
I told the manager that their inflexible policies, while maybe legal, are abusive and improper. This is the only apartment complex I've lived at where I had to listen to my neighbor snoring at night. There were insects upon moving in; and the "gated community" is gated as long as maintenance repairs the gate. The dogs start barking at 6:00 a.m. (pets are allowed, incl. BIG dogs). Why am I liable for the full terms of the lease, when the landlord doesn't live up to theirs, in terms of acceptable conditions'
The economic conditions that are greatly impacting many should signal to landlords that policies should be more flexible. My employer was willing to talk with Highline to verify my layoff, but the leasing mgr. wasn't interested, saying "everyone is treated the same". These are people that are certainly willing to take advantage of anyone caught in unfortunate circumstances. They are blinded by greed, and too lazy to work with individuals regarding their situations.
