Management Doesn't Work With You
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 4/27/2004
Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
I've lived here for two years. The worst problems have been hot water (and water altogether) being shut off without notice during an interminable "boiler replacement" (mgt. is making improvements notifying about this), unannounced changing apartment policies (such as pool, garage, storage, and billiard room access), heat or air conditioning flipped on/off (it's seasonal) without notice, and management NOT being around.
Since moving in, I've seen 6 managers come and go, and the search is on for #7. One manager only lasted two weeks. Currently a temp is managing the building, and she's the most consistently visible manager the building's ever had. Unfortunately, she's temporary. Otherwise, management has not been consistently around during posted business hours, frequently has provided no notice about water (or only hot water) being turned off, does not regularly replace light bulbs in emergency stairwell, hasn't always repaired the old elevators in a timely fashion (one or both have broken down about 10 times so far, and I've climbed over five flights of stairs more than I care to elaborate upon; plus their small size makes moving in difficult), and do NOT always reply to the emergency pager if called.
I was locked out of my apartment overnight and had to repeatedly page the manager from that evening to the next day just to get a single call back at 10 AM the next day. When he did return my "emergency" page, he complained he was out of town for a wedding and wouldn't be able to help me-- during posted business hours. He later got another authority person to let me in, but by that time a whole night, and over 18 hours, had passed. I've also had to shovel snow/ice off the underground garage's steep driveway the last couple years more than five times just to get out-- all because management was incognito and not doing their job of salting/shoveling. This is TYPICAL.
Paid-for parking is good, the apartment layouts and views are great, and the rent's not bad-- I really want to like this place-- but the building is so incomptetently and spend-thriftly managed that ultimately, when it comes time for you to rely on management, you'll find how little they give a care.
Trust me-- when enraged residents vandalize the elevator and post "residents unite and complain" letters throughout the year-- you shouldn't be surprised. "Lessor beware." bYr9ljUwtCbMRXE8dRDC
