It's not that bad...

I don't work at Lowry Park Apartments, so don't give me any of that bulls***. I'm a current resident and I don't think this place is all that bad. I've lived all over the country and I think people that complain about this place have probably been a little too spoiled in life, or they just lack some people skills. I come from an entire family of whiners and the one thing I notice is their inability to talk to others. I mostly meet medical students that are living here while going to the nearby medical school, and I think that's why this place is quieter than most of the places I've lived. This place isn't all peaches, but I think the positives outweigh the negatives here.

Here are my complaints about this place. The rent is a little on the high side for what you're getting. I'm paying $725 a month for a studio apartment, but I chose this place based on location more than price. The ceiling is very high and there is plenty of sunshine that comes in through the large windows though. If they try to increase my rent then I'll more than likely move to a cheaper place in this area. I'm a film student and this place is only a couple of blocks away from the school. I was originally told that I would receive a discount on my rent for being a student, but then I was told that was a lie and the guy that sold me on the apartment was fired. Oh well, the discount wasn't all that much anyway. The parking can be a bit of a hassle but I've always been able to find a spot that's fairly close by. I'm not sure about the safety thing here. There is a gate but it's always open for anyone to come in. I did hear about the girl getting kidnapped and forced to take money out of the bank, but in all honesty that kind of stuff happens everywhere. On the west side of these apartments there are million dollar homes and everyone drives a beamer, but on the east side of these apartments there are pawn shops and everyone drives a low riding Monte Carlo. So I think there is a chance of crime happening here but I have a new and fairly nice car, and I haven't had any problems or worries with having my car damaged or broken into. Neither have I seen any shady looking people walking or driving around on the property. I was solicited at my own apartment to buy a newspaper subscription, but the guy was cool about it when I told him to leave me the f*** alone.

Here are the positives. The location is great. Both the medical school and the film school are within walking distance, there is a shopping center where you can get everything you need, there are tennis courts and baseball diamonds right behind the apartments that you can use whenever you choose, the pool is very nice, the weight room sucks if you're trying to become a bodybuilder but it's open 24 hours a day to residents and it has everything you need, and I think the staff is actually pretty nice. I've heard people complain about the management here but I have nothing but nice things to say about them. I'll give those people that complain a little advice: If you treat others like they're total D-bags, then they will treat you the same way in return. I'm nice to the management here and they're very nice to me. Also, back to the film school stuff. Obviously, a big part of being in film school is making movies. The management here will allow film students to schedule times to use the offices, gym, pool, and anything else they can help you with to make your student films for free. The people that work on the grounds crew are very nice too. They jump started my car for me after I had left my headlights on all night. They also pick up your trash for you if you're too lazy to carry it to the dumpster yourself.

Overall, this place isn't a dream apartment nor is it a complex from hell. The amenities are really nice but there are some short comings. If you just need a nice place to live while going to school, then this place is great.

maybe you live on the good side because i get no sun (facing north) and it's super loud. i'd much rather not live by other students if they aren't over their party years yet.
