In the 5-1/2 years we lived here, we have seen some major changes. Some for the good, but mostly for the bad. We rented a bottom floor unit and our move -in check list was long due to lack of care from the maintenance crew that was here at the time. We complained about many things when we first moved in, yet nothing was taken care of. Over time we continued to complain, but was basically pushed aside like our problems just didn't matter. We have seen several managers come and go, some bad some good. Up until about a year ago, the property seemed to be going downhill. Then it was purchased and taken over by Holland Residential. They came in and tried to correct the lighting situation, they cleaned up the property, they replaced the dilabidated siding and painted the entire exterior, and then as people moved out they upgraded the units (obviously not ours, as we have not moved out, yet). However, with the upgrades you could not wash the walls and I am not sure how the new style carpet was working out.
When new management came in, we finaly got someone to pay attention to some of the concerns we had had over the years. One of those being a soft spot between the toilet and the tub in our "spare" bathroom. When they came in, they found that the floor around the toilet had deteriorated and the ground underneath had eroded away leaving a 3' hole under both bathroom floors. So the wobbly toilet that we had been complaining about for at least 3-1/2 years was only being held up by the drain pipe. Sound like a safe place you would want to live'
Most recently we were made aware of a concern that we had had as long as we lived here. We recently had a leak in our unit. When maintenance was asked to look at it, they never touched anything but tried to blame it on the plumber that had been in the unit above a week ago. People it does not take a week for water to appear, unless it was a very small amount. Then they tried to blame it on a roof leak. Again people, a roof leak would not skip the top two units and only leak in the bottom unit in the kitchen area (maybe the fireplace as it would follow the pipe down). About 1-1/2 weeks later they finally came in and removed the cupboard where the water was dripping from. Upon removal, the entire wall hidden by the cupboard was covered in black mold. When they cut out the drywall to locate the leak they found a drain pipe that drained the two upper units cracked on each side of the pipe. The condition of the pipe showed signs that this had been broken for quite some time. More mold was found later during the clean up (which was from numerous problem areas that had been total ignored over the 5-1/2 years we resided here).
On top of all that, as they remodel the units they do not repair the major findings just what they have to. So expect to find major creaking in the ceiling above you, as the buildings are old and the concrete between the units is starting to crumble, thereby causing creaking. So please take care if you still decide to rent here. Not a nice place to live.
