The leasing staff makes used car salesmen look honest

I never actually lived int his apartment, but I did recently tour the complex, looking for an apartment. The leasing staff are such tools...they are all sales and spin all the time. You ask for the price of an apartment, and they say "oh...we just switched to this new pricing system. it's awesome, just like airlines use for pricing tickets!" Which is basically just a BS answer for "we'll charge you as much as we possibly can and never give you a straight answer!"...airline pricing is notoriously opaque, so maybe they need to find a better example...We discussed two identical units with two different staff, and one was available for $629 per month, whereas the other one was available for the totally amazing low price of $705.
The staff continues its explanation of the pricing system..."the sooner you sign a lease, the lower your price is!" This isn't true. They'll give you a lower price for signing a lease for an apartment that is currently occupied, but the tenant is moving out immediately before you want to move in. They will cut you a break if you sign a lease, unit unseen, and garuntee that their unit doesn't sit empty. If you want to lease an apartment that is currently vacant, the rent magically jumps unless you are planning to move in immediately, because they don't want to hold an apartment for you if your not paying for it. The fancy system basically jacks up the monthly price for the length of lease to compensate for the fact that they held the apartment vacant for you for however many weeks. And somehow Deep Blue or (whatever their pricing system is called) takes into account the length of your lease...for the unit we were discussing, a 13 month reached some sort of pricing nirvana and was cheaper than both a 15-month lease and a 12-month lease. Very understandable and customer friendly!!
And while they may advertise low deposits, watch out for all the tacked on fees. sure the "surety deposit" is only $87.50, but watch out for the $100 admin fee (i.e. pure-profit fee), $35 per person application fee, non-refundable pet fee, $12 a month renters insurance, etc etc.
The apartments look nice enough, even though I would prefer not to live near a big street (Havana) or a shopping center...but after dealing with the leasing staff and their absurd salesmanship, constant bait-and-switch, and the totally unclear pricing, I decided that these were not people that I would trust to manage the property where I live.
