dont move here

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
I moved here in August because it was close to my work and I only had a couple of days to find a place. So far we have gotten alot of surprises while living here. Our apartment is right under the staircase which means that whenever anyone decides to go down the stairs we can hear it so loudly that it feels like our bedroom is shaking, which is something we were given no warning about before moving in. Also our apartment is right at ground level right by the courtyard which wouldnt be so bad if the blinds closed all the way, but they dont. Meaning anyone can see into our room clearly from outside. Also various things were broken/missing upon moving in; The tile in the bathroom under the toilet was cracked making it so the toilet is always on a slight angle and very unstable. Some of the windows were missing screen covers meaning whenever we open them swarms of flies get into the kitchen. The bath tub was covered with stains and paint splatters, and every door in the apartment does not close all the way or have to be closed with a large amount of force in order to get them to stay shut. Once you have shut them they get jammed and you end up getting stuck inside the bathroom or struggling to open a closet for 5 minutes before finally you get it to open. It is impossible to adjust or shut off the heat, so at times it is swealtering and at times freezing. These things could be understandable if the rent were substantially less but when you compare it to other apartments in the area for around the same price, you are not getting your moneys worth. The last thing is that when we moved in we were told that pets were ok with a 150$ deposit. The lease also implies that dogs are allowed. We moved in and noticed that half the people here have dogs, and so we always assumed that the apartment would allow us to get a dog, however that was not the case. Apparently they had changed the rule, and the people in the apartment who own dogs got them before they changed this rule. I think that if there is a rule that has been changed then it is necessary to also change the wording in the lease, so people are not led to assume otherwise. Maybe they expect people to just deal with all of these things, but for us this building has had way to many unpleasant surprises for us to want to stay here.
