Great location, cute apartments, but they don't deliver what they sell you.

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I am on my third (and last) lease here (each lease was for 1 year) and went through the management change from Post to Equity. I was truly happy here the first year and a half that Post managed the apartments. Since Equity took over, not so much.
While they offer a "secured parking garage" the security gate is broke and wide open about 10% of the time leaving it completely accessible to anyone walking by that feels like breaking into a car. While my car has never been broken into the secured parking garage was a large factor in me moving there and willing to spend so much on rent.
Also in the winter they did not patrol the parking garage very well and tenants were illegally parking by creating their own parking spaces to avoid the roof parking where their cars would get snowed on. I really dont care if a tenant illegally parks but if it makes it impossible for me to leave the garage because the isles become to skinny to get around the corners in a big truck thats when I get a little annoyed. This had not happened the prior winter with the previous management. When I called to complain the lady on the phone told me that they would put letters on the cars illegally parked to let them know to move. I say tow them if I cant get out.
Also, the management always seem to be in meetings and the answering machine never seems to be working. Honestly, about half the time I call with a question, or repair, (which isn't often) I have to call 3 or 4 times to talk to someone during office hours. The phone just keeps ringing and no answering machine picks up. When I finally speak to someone they tell me that they were all in a meeting and the phone system was "down". This has happened at least 3 times in the last 6 months.
And worst of all was my experience with a late rent payment. A death in my family unexpectedly took me out of town at the end of the month before I paid my rent. I came back 2 days after rent was due knowing very well that I would have a $50 late fee. What I didn't expect was that they taped to my apartment door for all my neighbors to read was a "Demand of Possession or Compliance" letter threatening eviction, legal fees, etc if I did not immediately pay my rent. This is after 24 monthly on-time rent payments and no issues ever. Of course my next door neighbor came to check on me to see if I lost my job or something. I have never been more embarrassed in my life. Management has my phone number if they needed to get a hold of me but instead they chose to make it known to every tenant in my hall that I had missed a rent payment and also make it appear to everyone that I was in the process of being evicted. I am aware that it is my fault I missed a payment but have never experienced such an unprofessional way of handling a good, loyal, customer. I wrote a letter which I stapled to my rent check explaining how unprofessional I felt they handled the situation and they didnt even call to apologize.
To give a fair review I would like to say they have always been timely with my repairs in my apartment and that they do offer very cute apartments in a great location. My suggestions if you move here is have a compact car that isnt too valuable, dont leave valuables in your car, and never make a late payment unless you want to be humiliated in front of your neighbors.
