Not what it used to be

My final lease at this property expires this month, and it will be quite a relief. I moved in when Post owned the property and was happy with almost every part of the community. While Post could be a little strict on what they would and wouldn't do, basically sticking to your lease, the property was well maintained and problems were solved quickly. Since the property was sold last year to Equity, the entire community has suffered. Community equipment, like grills, a firepit, washers and dryers, safety lighting and gym equipment is broken for weeks as a time. When repairs are requested, they are rarely followed up on. This brings me to the worst part of living at Uptown Square in the last 15 months, the staff.

The staff at Uptown Square has to be the most discourteous and unhelpful of any management I have ever dealt with in 15 years of renting. To start, even getting staff to acknowledge you is a chore. Phones take 5-10 minutes to be answered and forget showing up in the lobby. The staff is too busy in the back to help anyone in the lobby in a reasonable amount of time. When the staff finally comes to help you, angry as usual that someone dare intrude on their time during business hours, nothing is their fault. Washers and dryers...its a contract with another company, weight room equipment broken, fire pit turned off, or grills out of propane'....its an amenity that the staff isn't required to repair/replace, apartment problem'...it won't get fixed for 2 or 3 weeks as they continually misplace your work order. The list goes on and on. For relatively minor complaints, you can expect a trail of excuses. When things do go right, snow removal last winter for instance, the staff will take credit, even though its a service, not Equity staff that does the work. Finally, when your lease is up, everything having been paid in full and on time, they hit you with your renewal rate. After 36 months of of on-time payments, no bounced checks, no complaints from the neighbors, etc, my reward was...a $300 increase in my monthly rent and a utility bill 3x higher than it was under Post (from $720 to $1050/month on rent, from $30 to upwards of $90/month on utilities FOR A STUDIO APARTMENT)

So, after all this, what does Uptown have to offer you' A great location with some great amenities the staff will gladly tell you all about during your tour...along with possibly the worst management in Denver, amenities that are usually broken in some way, a long trail of excuses, non-stop frustration and continual threats of legal action, as noted by an earlier post, even when the mistake is clearly management's (paid rent, had check cashed, management attempted eviction that was denied when proof of cashed check was presented.) While not the worst place to live in Denver, it is not even close to the paradise the current Equity office staff (who have posted reviews called Just The Place, I Heart Uptown Square, and Love It on this site) would like you to think. Save your money and either look to buy or rent from a company that hires professional employees to actually do their jobs.
