Good apartments gone bad

First of all, pretty much everything that I've read here that was negative about this complex is 100% true, it's not just a few angry people. When I moved in, Post owned the property and I'd rented from them in Dallas with wonderful experiences. Yes, they charged more than most complexes, but you got your money's worth in amenities, service, and friendly staff. All this changed overnight when Uptown Square was sold. Suddenly everything on the property grounds was in a state of total disrepair and complaints were universally ignored. Perfectly fine lighting fixtures were replaced with ones that would blow the breakers all the time and hallways would be dark. They decided to "upgrade" the laundry facilities and the process took weeks to complete, with NO working machines present during most of this period. As noted in another review, the excuse for these types of things was that they were contracted services (laundry, snow removal, etc). Well, if you got that kind of "service" from a contractor, wouldn't you demand better or replace them'''
When I moved out, I got socked with a bill for carpet replacement due to "damage" that did not exist. Fortunately on that issue they backed down when I demanded proof, but did so in the form of a revised bill received in the mail later, after the person in the office that I spoke with was rude and threatening.
Winter 2006-07 was especially bad, but even so they did a horrible job clearing the sidewalks. If you were lucky there was one small opening to get past the mountain of snow piled between the street and sidewalk, usually cleared by a tenant or delivery driver. The courtyard areas were never cleared of snow either, not even a path.
If you are unfortunate enough to live across the street from the parking garage, as I did, then good luck carrying stuff through the garage, down an elevator, and across the street to your building. If you get home after 7 pm, there is generally no hope of parking on the levels of the structure that the elevators service, so add a flight of stairs to that mess.
Although I didn't personally experience this, management put out a news flier at one point stating that vehicles on the uppermost level of the garage were being broken into. There were other more serious crimes in the area also reported while I lived there.
I was fortunate to only have one occupied apartment touch mine, but those neighbors were above me and I could hear them stomping and crashing at all hours of the night. I'm not sure if it was their choice or if the management actually took my complaints seriously, but after three complaints they moved out.
One other thing that I really didn't care for was the extremely high number of tenants who had dogs, some really BIG dogs, and most of them didn't clean up after them or keep them on a leash (as was supposedly required, but never enforced).
Overall, I DO think these apartments could be brought back to high standards. I was willing to accept the parking situation and other inconveniences for the original standard that the Post management set for this property for the price. The enormous increase in rent that accompanied the enormous decrease in service and respect was really unbelievable. If the owners of this property want to turn it around, they need to fire every last employee, solicit input from the tenants for all of the hundreds of things that need fixing, and reprice the rent to reflect the market (plus perhaps a reasonable amount, IF the quality improves).

#1. You're from Texas.
#2. I haven't once experienced lights in the hallways. I feel like the maintenance people do a great job. Every single time I've reported something wrong in my apartment, maintenance has come to fix it within two hours!
#3. Yes, the laundry machines really do suck here.
#4. Winter 2006-2007 was a HUGE blizzard. I don't know if you saw the rest of Denver, but the entire city had a tough time keeping the sidewalks and roads clear.
#5. Yes this place lacks on elevators, but it's only 4 stories high. It sucks moving in, but otherwise it's not really an issue. A little exercise is good for ya. (I don't know if you knew, but we have a pretty awesome workout room....Don't forget to take the elevator to get to it though.)
#6. You say they need to reprice the rent to reflect the market?? I don't know what you think the market is like, but I checked out TONS of apartments around Denver before I moved here, and this is a GREAT deal. If you want a cheaper apartment, move away from downtown.
#7. I'd say this is a fantastic place to live, especially so close to downtown. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

To the responder to this review who used a list-
Did you even bother to read the post before responding? You "haven't once experienced lights in the hallway," but "feel like the maintenance people do a good job?" Isn't that kind of a major MAINTENANCE issue? The place doesn't lack elevators, they're just not conducive to people moving in or out. What does that have to do with the gym, even with all its broken equipment (the radio, climbing wall, treadmills, and bike were all broken for more than 10 months when I moved in)? The rent issue...they raised rent more than 40% from 2006 to 2007. Less than 3 blocks away, you can find rent that is $300 to $400 cheaper. As another tenant ready to move, the concerns brought up do exist and have become major issues under the current deadbeat management. So the better question, since little of your response even addresses the concerns in the original post, is whether you're part of management or just plain stupid? So the reviewer is from Texas...at least they can write something coherent.

This review is very accurate in addressing the problems at Uptown. Rules are only enforced when it benefits management, the office ignores complaints and makes a lot of promises during your tour that they don't follow through on once your contract is signed. As another resident looking to move out as soon as my contract runs out, there are 2 more points that need to be made. Utility bills have more than tripled since Equity took over the property. Also, bills are now 2 months behind, making it impossible to check meter readings for accuracy. The other big issue is the access clickers every resident uses to get around the complex. The office has started shutting them off as residents move out, but instead of shutting them off 1 at a time, they do it in blocks. This results in current residents' clickers being shut off without warning. I've already had this happen twice, including once after returning from a trip after the office closed. Stay away from this place, run by an incompetant manager, Amy Snodgrass, and the worst apartment staff in Denver.

The staff at Uptown are horrible. The response to any of our maintenance concerns was "that is an issue for our contractor" but we never saw a contractor and our issues were continuously ignored. As for the elevators someone so eloquently put it in their "#5"--(Yes this place lacks on elevators, but it's only 4 stories high. It sucks moving in, but otherwise it's not really an issue. A little exercise is good for ya)-- Well they do not Lack on elevators the real issue is the ones they have break down ALL THE TIME! Sure we lived on the 4th floor and it won't kill anyone to climb a few flights of stairs but when I broke my leg it would have been super terrific if an elevator was working...Better yet try to carry a weeks worth of groceries up to the 4th floor...You wont need to try to use the gym (where only half the machines work) because you will be exhausted!
We lived there for 6 months but could not take it any longer because we had leaks, the noise from the all night roof top parties was driving us insane (Uptown claims the pool and roof close at 10pm but that is not true it is an all night weekend party on the roof and at the pool. There is also no security officer because when we needed one the answering service said no such person existed)
The office staff glossed over everything and made big promises that they never even intended to keep. Just look at all the bad reviews and how they number against the good ones. If you ask the office staff they will say "Oh that is just people that were disgruntled because we took over from post" well that takeover was a couple of years ago so what about all of us that have issues with the building and staff now? I was not a Post resident, I am only someone that wanted a clean safe place to live where we were treated with respect. We pay the rent so they should be working for us not against us.
Please heed the warnings of all these other posters and look elsewhere for your home. This staff has made Uptown a very undesirable and unsafe place to live. There is another Equity property on Colorado Blvd (CO Pointe) that is really great. Clean, comfortable, safe, nice amenities and you get more for your money. We ran as fast as we could out of Uptown and are now very happy and have no complaints.
Good Luck but Do Not rent at Uptown Sq
