I moved to Denver in March of 2007 and into Uptown Square. I thought I'd like being close to downtown and in a community of young professionals. The day I moved in, the gate to the parking garage was broken, allowing people to get in whether they lived at Uptown or not. I should have taken that as a hint and cancelled my lease on the spot.
Problems started at Uptown the day I moved in. I walked into the gym to find half the equipment broken. That weekend, I tried to do some laundry, only to find half the washers and dryers not working. The parking garage, hallways and courtyards were never lighted and the grills the staff showed me on the tour were always out fo propane. The fire pit I expected to be able to use has been shut off since I moved in. Cars were broken into, thanks to the "security camera" management has in the garage, which DOESN'T RECORD ANY VIDEO, and there was a rape in the complex last year.
Unfortunately, these issues don't begin to describe the real problem at Uptown, the management. Starting with the people at the front desk, who don't answer the phone and rarely have time for resident concerns, and continuing to the Denver Management, Amy Snodgrass and Judy Blaes, staff are nothing short of arrogant, rude and demeaning. You will get 10 different answers from each staff member, everything is blamed on their contractors and nothing ever gets done. I have seen petitions and angry confrontations between staff and residents, nothing works. They always have an excuse, a legal threat, or a reason that the resident is wrong. One of the worst experiences I've ever had. Do yourself a favor, save your money and stay away from this place.

Right on!
Perhaps if "Appalled" spent less time writing inane responses peppered with asinine and copiously capitalized exclamatory phrases she'd have time to notice and logically assess what's actually happening at Uptown Square. But then she's probably so unrelentingly upbeat, so opposed to all the 'rediculous' malcontents who inhabit this complex and most of the rationally thinking general masses, that she's of the opinion that almost anyone who has anything negative to say - however justified - is "...just a big meany head!". I'd also be willing to bet that she dots her i's and j's with little open dots or hearts and punctuates her poorly formed sentences with smiley faces.

I am appalled at the audacity of people who complain. I have lived at Uptown Square since September 2006 and have found the complete opposite to be true of this review. When I question the staff regarding issues on the property I don't take it so much as an excuse but rather an explanation. When I asked about the fire pit I was told it was to conserve energy in the summer when it was not needed, which is FINE by me since we are paying for the gas anyway. Plus, I live in that courtyard and it has been turned on since November when it started getting cold outside so that was completely fabricated. As for the alleged "rape" on the property, it is rediculous to hold management accountable for that. Without knowing the circumstances, that could have been an aquaintance that was let in anyway. You are foolish to believe that you can live in downtown ANYWHERE and not be susceptible to crime. They are controlled access garages and nowhere did I read that they are "break-in proof." The gym at Uptown is the WHOLE reason I moved there and I always find working equipment. Things breakdown, that's JUST how it is. It is the best in downtown, at least from what I looked at. If you read these reviews in hopes of making a decision on where to move, keep in mind that generally only angry, picky, and hard to please people take the time and energy to write reviews and I don't feel you will get an accurate perspective on the property. Uptown has THE best location and it seems the other residents are friendly and easy to get to know. I would HIGHLY recommend looking at the place. My boyfriend moved into an apartment in August and it is also GREAT! Good Luck with your move!

The first review is 100% correct! The one who wrote that they are "appalled at the audacity of people who complain" is either someone that works for Uptown or a complete lunatic. We lived there for 6 months and we got the same run around..."It's not our fault....That is an issue for our contractor...We'll get to it...." If we were even lucky to get them on the phone. The office staff was nice until the lease was signed then it was a big screw you to us from them.
The secure entries are always broken or propped open and I agree that the gyms equipment is usually 1/2 out of service. The laundry room is disgusting and I always saw peoples clothes thrown from washers onto the nasty floor. The elevator breaks down all the time and dogs run free with out leashes and the office does nothing. The pool and roof patio NEVER close so get used to the noise and there is NO so called security officer because when we needed one the answering service said that no such person existed.
The person that wrote such a glowing recommendation for Uptown and says "only angry, picky, and hard to please people take the time and energy to write reviews" must have their facts wrong since they took the time to write such a false happy review.
I am not angry, picky, or hard to please! I only wanted a safe clean place to live where the staff is at least somewhat helpful and where maintenance and security concerns are taken seriously and treated promptly. I guess for the $1500.00 a month we were paying that is too much to ask for.
We moved to another Equity property on Colorado Blvd and it has been a joy to live here...Clean, safe, comfortable, wonderful amenities, and a semi-decent staff.
I am only writing a review because when we moved to Colorado we looked at all the bad reviews for Uptown that were on sites like this and we took our questions and concerns to the office staff when they were showing us apartments and they all said "Oh no there are no problems here!" "It is just disgruntled people that did not like it when we took over from Post" "There is no noise issue because we have a security officer and the pool and roof close at 10pm" "We here at the office are always eager to help you in anyway and if you have a complaint about noise or safety we will be on it right away!"
But we should have read the reviews and not bought their line of bull! It was great to live so close to downtown but not at the expense of our safety and peace of mind. Don't be fools like us, just keep looking because this is a really bad place that is poorly run. Every person that reviews it can not just be picky! We all lived there and know what happens before the ink is even dried on the lease.
Good Luck and please do not rent from these modern day slum lords.I 100% agree with this post. We paid good money to rent here and after the lease was signed we were treated like the crap on the bottom of managements shoe.
We had leaks around our windows and our ceiling and they claimed it was not their problem but the roof contractors...We never saw a roof contractor and everything continued to leak until we moved out 6 months before our lease was up.
If you do go into the office to ask or question or make a complaint the staff will ignore you even if they see you. When they do finally wander over you could cut the hostility with a knife. If they had even treated us like human beings things would have been a tiny bit better.
Life there was miserable and everything was always broken down or out of service up to the point where on our move in day the elevator was out of service for most of the day and we lived on the 4th floor.
Do what you want but if you move in here you will be remembering all these reviews after you sign your lease and you see that it is you against a rotten place to live with a uncaring disrespectful staff...

Dear appalled dee-dee-dee (in the words of Carlos Mencia)-
First, complaining is different than accurately describing problems. Are the issues in the post legitimate? Yes. Complaining would be saying the treadmills don't go fast enough, not that they are consistently broken.
If you have been around since September 06, then maybe you can explain why the equipment in the weight room wasn't working for most of that winter. Getting problems solved at Uptown is like watching a monkey hump a lightbulb, you get 10000 excuses while an employee stands there with a finger up his butt. By the way, an excuse is when the staff tells you something that either they don't follow through or that doesn't solve your problem, just so you don't get that confused with an explanation again in the future. It means you blame things on contractors, other companies and corporate policy instead of helping residents.
It's pretty obvious that you don't understand utility billing either. Common area utilities (courtyards, weight room, pool) should be paid for by MANAGEMENT not TENANTS, slick. Having lived at Uptown since Post handled the property, the hardest time to find a place near the firepit was summer. It's fed by propane gas, genius. It's not a trashcan to keep hobos warm or a campfire to roast marshmellows over. Who wants to hang out by a propane firepit in cold weather when it doesn't generate heat? Did residents decide they didn't want the firepit turned on or did management just shut it off because they're cheap? I for one was never asked about it.
I don't think the security issue is break-in-proof garages; its that the sensors to get in and out of the courtyards and garage are broken, allowing easier access than a "controlled-access" facility should. IT'S NOT CONTROLLED-ACCESS IF THERE IS NO CONTROL! But hey, at least they have a camera that doesn't record anything in case something does happen. Here's a thought....if the camera recorded the people committing the crimes around the complex instead of doing something pointless, kind of like your response, maybe they could keep these people out in the future.
Where did your resident comment even come from...when did your "audacious complainer" say anything about residents? I think it just says management sucks. Who am I to argue though, if a lemming like you, who just smiles and nods at everything they're told, and your "rediculous-ly GREAT" boyfriend love it? I'll agree with you, Uptown the community seems great, but even you avoid the management issue (I'm sure that's a pure coincidence) while ripping into the people TALKING ABOUT POOR MANAGEMENT. But hey, why should any of the issues talked about on this and other posts be management's responsibility? Why should they care as long as they can find suckers like you and your boyfriend? Last thought...why do you think a lot of the Uptown equipment works at all? Maybe because of petitions that cycled around the property around the time you moved in? You could try to make a case that this resident isn't right, but how about more than 200?
