I lived in Uptown for a year. There was good and bad - I think you have to decide what elements are deal breakers for you when moving into a place:

The Good:
--My bathtub drain clogged all the time, but everytime I called to get it fixed, it happened in 48 hours.
--Great walking distance to downtown - especially Coors Field
--Great wine shop and gourmet grilled cheese place, 2 fun bars in the neighborhood
--Decent gym
--The laundry was never crowded. The credit card machine broke for quite a while, but they made up for it in allowing all tenants free laundry for 2 months.
--I felt very safe, even though the keycard entry system sometimes broke.

The Bad:
--You don't just pay your utilities, you pay EVERYONE's in the building (shared.) I lived in a studio and am a big energy conserver. Sometimes I'd pay up to $60 a month for utilities. It was rediculous.
--This is the biggest one: they lied to me about the noise level. I have a very intense social services job and am also getting my masters. I needed a quiet place to debrief and study. I asked SPECIFICALLY if you could hear neighbors (realizing it would not be totally silent since the place is in downtown Denver.) One of the management staff told me, no, there is concrete between the units, so no noise. Much to my dismay, everytime the guy above me took a step around his apartment, I heard it. Every f'ing time. It was incredibly frustrating. Of course Uptown was willing to move me to the top floor, for more rent per month. I couldn't ever really hear by next door neighbors though.
--People fairly unfriendly, especially the females
--I had a very stressful move in day. Some friends bailed at the last minute and the remaining friends and I were scrambling to get everything done. I was moving from the north and called them to tell them I'd be about 10 minutes late from when they closed for they day on a Saturday. They informed me that if I didn't get there on time, I'd have to wait until Monday to move in. I told them it was only 10 minutes and begged someone to stick around. They told me too bad, I should have thought of that.
--My rent went from $775 to $824 from May 07 to May 08 for a studio. It's just too much to pay for what you get. You are really paying for the location.
--Some huge frat party closed the pool from July 4th until the end of the summer.
