STAY FAR AWAY...

Years at this apartment: 2003-01-01 - 2006-01-01
After living at Uptown for over 3 years, I bought my own place. I paid a significant amount of money to break my lease, and moved out by the day the manager and myself had decided on.
Fast forward to 7 months later and I receive a letter from a collection agency saying I owe $300 to Uptown Village. This was the first I had ever heard of it, and I left them my forwarding address with the keys and parking pass. I come to find out that they are trying to charge me for multiple days rent after the agreed upon date of move out on the contract. I had actually completely moved out 3 days before that date. The collection agency says I was living there for 5-10 days (they didn't know exactly) after I moved out AND that my deposit on the apartment only totalled $70, when in reality it was $700.
So all in all, I ended up paying over $1500 to break the lease which is understandable. They kept the deposit even though I left the unit clean, and are now saying I owe another $300 7 months after the fact.
Stay as far away from this place as possible. I am glad the horrible dealings with this apartment complex pushed me to move out and buy my own place so I will never have to deal with shady property management companies again. These people definitely take the top award for shadiness, and their collection agency (Continental Collecton Agency, LTD.) the second award. In factr, they probably work together to scam money out of people.
