Ventana Apartments

All the responses that say that these apartments are a great value and that you get what you pay are crazy! I pay $750 for a lowsy 650 square foot "newly remodled" one bedroom that is in moderate shape at best. The only difference between a remodled and a non-remodled apartment is new countertops in the tiny kitchen and tiny bathroom and they jack the rent up $100 a month. They promised me an apartment with a mountain view which I did not ask for but was happy to take. When I came on the day the told me was my move in date, they told me that someone was supposed to call me and that they converted that apt into the model so it was no longer mine, eventhough I paid $100 to hold the apartment. Then I was also told that I could not move in for another week eventhough I had taken that entire day off to move and recruited some friends of mine to help. We were also given the run-around on several other issues and finally were given a ground floor apartment about 10 feet outside the pool. We were so unhappy with this location that we made them put in our lease that we could move if we didn't like the location. They were happy to do this so that is one good thing at least.
The first night we were at our apartment, a domestic abuse disturbance happened on the floor above us and my boyfriend got a knife pulled on him by the man involved in the disturbance. We had to call the police and were kept up until 3 in the morning. Three weeks later, a flood broke out in the crawl space under our apartment building so there were huge, 3 foot in diameter tubes coming out of the crawl space out onto the sidewalk for almost three weeks! Then a 5 foot metal dehumidifyer was placed 6 inches outside my front door and kept there for two weeks. My boyfriend and I became sick and both went to the doctor. We were both told that we displayed the symptoms of black mold exposure and that our apartment needed to be checked. I told the front office and they immediately got me another apartment on the other side of the complex and I moved that day (they actually were very nice about this) but they told me that there was no way there was any mold growing below but that I could move anyway. Two weeks later my apartment and 5 others were CONDEMNED because of toxic mold!!! Luckly we got out when we did.
Aside from that fiasco, it's just simple things like it takes two weeks for the work order to get a screen door put on. We spent two months with no A/C and some buildings still don't have it, yet they still pay the $50 utilities fee which includes our A/C and are given no break on their rent.
We had several things stolen from our apartment so we asked for our locks to be changed. Once we did so, things still came up missing but there was never signs of entry. We have always suspected one of the many shady maintenece workers that work there but haven't been able to prove it. I don't consider this neighborhood safe at all and worry about walking my dog at night. I think the walls are actually pretty thick by apartment standards and don't have a problem with noise, but I live on the top floor. Parking is decent.
Overall, this is one of the worst managed operations I have ever seen in my entire life. I have 9 months left on my lease and am already looking for a new apt, and contemplating breaking my lease. Not a good value whatsoever, I can go anywhere and find a better apartment for less money, but if you have a big dog like I do, good like finding any place other than the Ventana. DON'T MOVE HERE YOU WILL REGRET IT...I do!

I can sympathize with you. I can't believe they can actually stay in business. I was sexually harrassed by maintenance and when we did settle on an amount of money for compensation for what had happened to me, it took them over 4 months to mail me the check. And it was the wrong amount! I'm thinking of calling Tom Martino. Anyway, I'm sorry you have to continue to live there. I only spent 3 months there and it was the worst 3 months of my life! Theft, crack heads, neglegent apartment staff and maintenance, shady tenants. Good luck and GOOD RIDDANCE to the VENTANA!

i moved in too in the "remodeled" apartments. it surely doesn't feel remodeled. When it was my move in date, they also told me that it would be another week because it was not ready when I had already told people to come help me move and they took off of work for that whole day! I feel your pain!
