keep looking!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
I lived at the Alexan for 1 1/2 years. While extremely convenient to the light rail and a pretty building from the outside, it doesn't outweigh the negatives. Here are just a few:
1. Noise is a major problem. Even the water heaters are so loud that when they come on you have to turn up your TV to hear it.
2. Fire alarms are piercing, and when they test them they go off for 30-45 minutes or more. You have to take your pets and leave the building. Plus they go off now and then for no apparent reason. Wait till the first time they go off when you are sleeping!
3. People let their dogs crap pretty much anywhere, including the hallways. Eventually maintenance will clean it up, but watch where you step.
4. Garbage dumpsters are INSIDE the building under the staircases...I can't imagine whose brilliant idea this was.
5. You will not be notified by UPS or the office if a package has been delivered for you. I had an unexpected package come that sat in the office for 6 weeks. I got it when I went to ask about a package I was expecting (they couldn't find the pacage I was asking about even though I had a delivery confirmation - 2 weeks later I was notified it had been returned to the sender)
6. If you do not sign another 12 month lease after your initial lease is up, your rental rate goes up to "market rate" 100. Market rate is an inflated rate they use to force you into a long term commitment so my rent went from about $700(with free months discount) to $1100 for a medium sided 1 bedroom with no balcony, no fireplace, and a view of the parking lot.
7. While a couple of the people in the office are very nice and try to be helpfull, overall the mangement leaves something to be desired and they couldn't care less if you have a problem.
8. I was told I could park a 2nd car in the RTD lot across the street, and after 2-3 weeks started getting warning notices that my car would be towed. If you have a 2nd car your only option is to purchase expensive parking in the ALEXAN garage. (Its also usually impossible to find parking in the main secure lot for your first car) Many people also park at Walmart, but they will likely have to crack down.
9. There is no night security, so occasionally there are loud parties. One night 7 Englewood cop cars were there...I thought it must be a Meth lab, but it was just an underage drinking party.
10. I have never lived anywhere that they even charged you for garbage pickup!
11. Bills for gas/water come at varying times and have to be paid to ALEXAN directly, and if you don't pay them in about 3 days they post a nasty letter on your door for neighbors to see...so if your going out of town for vacation for a couple weeks...give them $100 or so in advance to cover it. I do not know why they can't collect this when your rent is due, I guess they just like to stick notes on your door.
