DON'T DO IT!!!

I came home one afternoon to find my apartment door ajar. There was no damage to the door jam, so it was apparently left open by someone who had a key. I learned, after a discussion regarding this break-in with the apartment manager, that one of her maintenance men had checked-out the key to my apartment accidentally and then "returned it shortly after discovering his mistake" on the very same day my apartment was broken into. She assured me that he did not enter my apartment, but c'mon, this was TOO much of a coincidence.
I reported the break-in to the police, who talked to the apartment manager... who then lied and said the key never left the drawer. This directly contradicts what she told me.
I told the apartment manager that I no longer felt safe in my apartment and she verbally agreed to let me out of my lease. Surprise, surprise... after I moved I was slammed with a $1300 re-letting fee.
On principal I have not paid... and on principal NOONE SHOULD MOVE HERE EVER. I've warned you.
