Great Place, Common Courtesy Required

I ve read all the reviews regarding The Marks, and I must say I have never experienced any of the problems noted by former tenants.

The apartment staff has always been nice to me, I have never seen even a non-emergency maintenance request not taken care of within the 48-hour guarantee window, and the key with them is to be nice and treat them like human beings - because they will go strictly by the rules for people they feel are less than courteous. I appreciate the more casual atmosphere and they gave me a great move-in deal. My family needed more space recently, so we switched to a 2-bedroom apartment - and they upgraded several features, gave us a deal on transfer and move-out that saved us hundreds, and the new apartment is incredibly clean. I have no idea what some reviewers are on about with the appliances. In the old apartment we had our garbage disposal replaced, a lock repaired, parts of our heater replaced, deck maintenance, and more, and never had to call twice on anything. In fact, many upgrades in the old place were offered to us before we even knew they were available.

The parking is plentiful and I never worry about my car. Security' The Englewood Police Department is not only two blocks away, but they use the road as a shortcut to Hampden! The sirens take some getting used to, but after a while I don t even hear them. I have never had them respond to even a minor nuisance call in more than a half hour (had to call on a leaf blower in the wee hours). Really, what more could you want outside of a private bodyguard' Yes, I'm sure there is crime. Thefts and whatnot, though with the police presence you'd have to be nuts to steal anything from around here. Since Blockbuster left, I imagine that's gone down. In any case, try living a crime-free existence close to several main thoroughfares. I'm amazed there isn't more. One caveat: You do witness... activity if you live near the neighboring complex. Try not to get a place facing them. I'm suspicious of anyone who can live in a place without windows anyway. I was also annoyed by the lack of plowing during the last series of blizzards, but I can be understanding - because one of the access roads abuts the two complexes *and* is a city street, there are tussles over whose turn it is to plow or repair the road, and that's not an inexpensive thing to undertake without setting down responsibility beforehand.

My neighbors have to work pretty darn hard for me to be able to hear them, and vice-versa - although they re all nice people, so if there was ever a problem, we could work it out. Now, this means no blasting stereos or racquetball tournaments in the apartment, but not being a reject from MTV s Spring Break is sort of essential to apartment living no matter where you are.

We chose to move here because we have friends who d lived here for years. We knew of any potential issues before moving in, and knew that any issues were just the result of apartment living being different from living in a house - you just have to be considerate of your neighbor, and realize that you re not the only tenant, and that you live in a community rather than being your own island. If you're looking for complete silence, go live in a house in the middle of nowhere. If you want a steady, non-rising rent payment, go get a mortgage. If you have problems, your neighbors have a door - knock on it. Apartment living requires some compromises.
