Yo!

RATS...RATS...AND MORE RATS!!

I have lived here at the The "Luxury" apartments at the Villas at Homestead for 1 1/2 years now and we are finally leaving in less than 23 days. We moved here from out of state and took one tour of the model apartment and because we needed a place fast in order to get the kids registered in school, we didn't look around. We learned really quickly that this place is nothing more than a high-priced ghetto! I am actually embarrased to live here and do not ever mention where I live.

On the first floor where I live two other residents are moving out right now and all cite the same reasons, RATS! This place has the brilliant idea to remodel a clubhouse that was perfectly fine instead of spending the money on pest/rodent control where it is desprately needed. Beware of taking out the trash at night or early in the morning because they are running around everywhere...they hide in the bushes up against our building...(right under my son's bedroom window!!). Apparently in the cold of night the rats like to crawl up into the warm engines of the cars and they bring trash up there, eat the wires, and eat the inside panel on the hood. I found bones in my engine (have to assume they are chicken bones from the dumpster) and a ton of rat crap, when I go to get my oil changed in my car, I have to stop at the car wash to pressure wash my engine because I'm embarrased. The rat urine heats up on the engine when driving and stinks up the car. I literally started my car one morning and a rat came running out from under my car up the little wooden retaining wall back into the bushes.

I was following my husband out of the complex one morning and as he reached the stop sign, I swear to god that a rat fell out from under his car. That is just disgusting, I'm just waiting for one to actually get into the interior of my car or worse into the apartment.

It's sad but I don't even let my two kids outside to play because some of the nasty kids that don't have parents that watch them, dig in the dumpster and take out trash that people throw away....and of course with the rats in the dumpster craping and urinating all over it, these kids are walking germs that I refuse to expose my kids to. Sure they've cut away some of the bushes from the building and have recently put out some traps, but we have still seen them running around. Some kids have even written "RATS" on the sidewalk with something red that wont wash away...nice. We've considered going out and adopting a few cats and letting them loose in the neighboorhood in an effort to take care of the problem ourselves. But that's not my job.

A previous poster mentioned the coyotes, yep, it's true my son and I personally saw them running through the neighborhood.

The "maintence" is a flipping joke, for the 4th time the handle on our microwave has broken off. The microwave is so old and everytime we call in the problem they come out and "superglue" the handle back on. How's that for ghetto! The oven and refrigerator and old pieces of crap too. We've had a ton of food ruined by the erratic temperature of the fridge. When calling maintenence, they just say the coils were overheated and they "fixed" the problem but never did. The oven temperature is also erratic and either overheats or underheats the food. We bought a state-of-the-art oven themometer to confirm the problem and even after telling this and showing this to maintence they told us our themometer was broken, so we bought a new one and they say the same thing and refuse to replace any of our appliances.

We have never had any issues with the staff themselves...they are always "all smiles" everytime we pay our rent but the company itself is just cheap! I don't know if it's local management or the head property company but to spend all their money on a stupid clubhouse and new signage around the complex and skimp on pest control and maintence is just assanine! I am glad we are leaving...I say good riddance to this "LUXURY" dump.
