New Apartments bring no fine living

Moving into Westpark Village Apartments at first seemed like a dream. They are new and offer many amenaties. However, after living here for about 8 months now I can say first hand that they are more like a nightmare.

I know, you are thinking that I will be writing this long winded complaint about the apartments. I won't. There are some good things about living here.

Do you want the good or bad first' Ok, the bad you say.

Bad
Not enough lighting in the area. Leaves this place wide open for theives. Install extra lights or better yet install a security system (i.e. some cheap cameras on top of the apartments to record what happens). Place signs stating that they are present on the premisis and I bet the crime rate will drop significantly.

Noise, noise, noise..... what was that you say' Exactly. During the summer expect a TON of noise. When management leaves, the tenants come out to play. During the winter, the tenants create noise in their own apartments disturbing everyone else.
Part of the problem is that the builder forgot to put any type of soundproofing between the apartments. The walls lack insulation, so you get to hear EVERYTHING that everyone else is doing. Lovely.

Tenant issues. Wow... talk about a bunch of disrespectful tenants. I have wondered if the managers actually conduct background checks on these people or if they are just letting anyone with a downpayment and promise to pay rent in. Tenants have actually beat each other up on more than one occasion. Interesting to note, management never really hears about all this. Ha, ha.. they know they just dont care.

The tenants that own dogs are lacking in ownership responsibilties. Simply put they don't give a hoot about anyone else's comfort here. Dogs barking at all hours of the night and dog doo everywhere. The apartments DO NOT provide any type of service area for the dogs. Thus they are leaving their marks everywhere else. Owners apparently do not feel it necessary to clean up after their pets. Management has sent out numerous warnings but to no avail. Heads up "enforce the rules" and charge the owners as specified under the lease.

Clubhouse.. well this is nice. If things actually worked or were taken care of. Now granted when you have irresponsible tenants coming into the facility and dont take care of things regularly or steal things management can't control everything. However, the computer crashes and they don't do anything to protect themselves from it reoccurring. Tenants are constantly stealing things from the clubhouse area. Computers were the first things to go.. exercise equipment was next... someone tried to steal the TV set but failed.... books and movies that are available for check out are only available once because no one returns them.... the list goes on and on...

Utilities... wow they can either be really cheap or really high. Typically in the winter you have a higher gas bill and in the summer its lower. Typically in the winter your electric bill should go down and in the summer go up. Not here... The gas bill is high during the winter and normal during the summer. The electric bill is high year round. Typically expect to pay between 100 - 175 a month in electric and gas bills.

Side note: the apartments do not allow you to have any type of cable except what they provide to you which currently is echostar/dishnetwork. They have NO attenna access for you otherwise. You will receive NO channels (well ok, maybe if you are lucky you will get channel 31/fox). So be prepared to pay an additional 40-60 a month depending on which package you want to get.

Also, management has been known to screw people out of their "gifts" they get when signing a lease (i.e. a month free, 500 gift cards, cheaper rent, etc.). Be careful of what you sign and make sure you get things in writing!!!!

Ok.. im done talking about all the bad things. The good things:

Swimming Pool (it is small and during certain times overcrowded, but it is nice to have), Fitness center (ok, maybe not a center but the equipment is there to use), Library (kids love this and we enjoy checking out books for however long we want to), Computer (high speed internet access on one computer *remember they had the rest stolen by tenants a while back and have not replaced them*, usually you can use the computer but sometimes you have to wait for others to be done with it. Free printing, copy, fax, etc are also available).

Washer Dryer hookups. Nice. They also have onsite laundry available. Rent the washer for 17.50 it is much less expensive than using their onsite facilities. The apartments come with a dryer.

High Ceilings. This is nice. The people on the top floor have vaulted ceilings throughout. It does however get VERY hot on the two top floors (heat rises you know).

Park next door and close to new shopping. New development area so there is a walking park next to the apartments and a large shopping center within walking distance.

Schools. Meeker Elementary, Brentwood Middle School, and Greeley West High School.

Emergency/Police/Fire

These apartments come with smoke detectors but they also have an alarm system througout with sprinklers (discount on insurance).

The police/fire/ambulance respond fairly quickly.

Handicap Accessable. All apartments on the bottom floor are wheelchair/handicap accessable. We have a lot of residents here who are wheelchair bound and have other issues.

The End.
