pleeeease don't get suckered in like we were

I very much think that the two postive reviews are people that stayed at this property under the "Oakwood" piece: as a hotel. The "don?t move here" review (11/18/2003) sounds like an actual resident of the apartment complex. His story is VERY similar to ours regarding the scummy way they dealt with us: my husband was called up for the reserves, was sent to Washington/Iraq, and they wouldn?t listen. We had ten months left on our lease, I tried to strike a deal of two monthts notice, then three...how about half' No. (Warning: there is a nasty clause in the lease that says if you even mention that you might be moving out ahead of schedule, they can IMMEDIATELY demand ALL FUTURE MONEY OWED. They did. There were lawyers. The lawyers came VERY FAST - within days of my trying to hopefully begin some kind of negotiation with Legacy about exiting early). And no, we didn't owe rent or anything. It was the middle of the month.)

We moved in because of the sweetheart deal to sign ($350 off posted rent). Yes, the property is pretty, the units are spacious. It lured us in, too. Nothing but trouble with the idiot staff after that.

Too many pieces of stupid to list, but includes them violating the lease (which, by the way, they themselves wrote) and, when confronted, saying flat out they didn?t care. The utility bills are outsourced to a different company in a different state that might - or might not - call you back (and they state often that Legacy is their customer, not you, so they don?t have to return your calls, which Legacy staff just shrugged at). No one cared, no one at Legacy would return calls. And then later swear that they did. (My eighty year old mother can manage to leave a message on our maching...why can?t they') The staff are just so low IQ and apathetic and lying that it hurts.

I think you can tell a lot about a complex by how they treat you on the way out. When we moved (oh, thank heavens and not a day too soon) they claimed it took two hours to clean the kitchen sink. Two hours. No, I still have no idea. Padding a bill perhaps' Such an old trick, and they pulled it. (Final bill included also three hours for the kitchen floor which is 4ft by 8ft, among other things.)

Be aware: for some reason, the heat for the apartment is supplied by the hot water heater - which is kept OUTSIDE in a non-insulated closet with no cover on the unit or the bare pipes. (Legacy puts a space heater in this closet, plugs it in and leaves it on 24-7 to keep the pipes from freezing. Leads to some electricity bills that will shock you.) When the temperature is below 45, you have to shower fast or you run out of hot water (because you have the heat on in the apartment at that point). And don?t even think about running the washing machine or dishwasher while taking a shower when it?s chilly out. There simply is no way.

Finally, the Legacy staff do nothing to stop the myriad dog owners from letting their dogs crap in every piece of grass available. Quite the smell sometimes (often just a couple feet from patios...very bold) and don?t ever cut across the grass without looking down (ewww...).
