Most apartments suck, but this one BITES!

We all know that living in an apartment is like playing Russian roulette. You know youll have a few loud neighbors, lousy parking, and crappy maintenance. I hate apartments, but these are the things that solidified that thought.

1st- Upon move in, I wanted cable broadband Internet. Im a computer person and was shocked when the complexs only choice for their tenants was TV Max located in Texas. They subcontracted their broadband Internet services to a place formerly known as Broadband Now, now known as Ygnition. They suck, and theyre expensive. I thought Comcast was expensive and bullish, not anymore. If you have a little snowstorm, expect a crappy cable picture. If theirs a solar flare, expect your Internet service to be down two months. When our Internet was down, we were resorted to dial-up because you cannot get DSL, or Comcast Internet. The front office has a decent Internet connection from Comcast, but of course they dont have the same thing for tenants. O.k., so we deal with it, but heres the problem. Unlike Comcast where they just simply send a single bill for cable and Internet services, TV Max mails you the cable bill, and Ygnition requires a credit card number so they can automatically deduct their bill from your account. Thats the only way youll get broadband Internet. O.k., so well deal with it, but when you have a problem with your services, expect to stay on the line waiting for two hours, be transferred all over the place, then get disconnected, then have to start all over again. I had to eventually talk to the district manager to get anything done, and thats only because I got a hold of her through e-mail.

2nd- Everything is electric, so we knew we would have a high bill from Xcel, but what we didnt count on was getting a separate monthly bill from the complex itself equal to or greater than the Xcel energy bill. This doesnt include the automatic $10 water charge included in our rent. We know that Xcel is for electricity, but when inquiring about the separate utilities bill with management, you never get the same answer twice. I even called Xcel to ask what they charge the apartment complex for, and asked if it was common practice for the complex to make tenants flick the bill. She said it was a common practice with greedy complexes, but that they should give me definitive answer to what they are charging us for. Im almost compelled to call the local news station to investigate them. On average, we pay nearly $140 per month for a two-bedroom apartment. This is in stark contrast to a friend with a 2000 square foot house who pays a blistering $70 per month.

3rd- They have a pet policy that states pet owners (dogs especially) will comply with local leash laws and be put on the lease. If they get three warnings, they are booted from the complex. Yea right. You would think that after complaining about two big mutts that roam free eight separate times, once after one lunged after my wife and kid, they would do something. I had to resort to arming myself with a high-powered pellet gun just to get the mail or walk my dog (thats always on a leash when outside). Apparently, we werent the only ones complaining about these dogs. Tenants from down the block , up the street, across the way and every where else were complaining. The managements excuse was that they didnt know who owned them. So I staked out the dogs as they ran freely for half an hour until they were finally whistled in by their owners. I found out who the owners where and where they lived and went to management. All they did was send them a letter. Next time, Im calling the police. If myself of my family is harmed by any of the many dogs that just roam free, Ill sue the complex for negligence, endangerment, and not abiding by their own lease.

4th- Maintenance stinks. And after discussing it with various tenants, its a huge problem. We had plaster and water falling all over the bathroom from the ceiling. They came and fixed it once, then twice, three times, and a fourth time. And wind blows through our windows when theyre cold. For as much as it costs us in heat, you would think it would heat the apartment, but not with drafty windows. Since the new complex owners, maintenance is no longer 24 hours. Good luck if anything happens.

5th- What happened to the washer and dryer hookups and extra storage they told my wife that they had for the apartment we were to rent' None. Downgraded to spending $30 in quarters for small washers and dryers that dont dry all the way.

6th- Management actually lost our rent check, and they were ready to charge us a late fee, even though we paid half a month early. No one communicates with each other. If you dont talk to the same person, then youll have to explain everything all over again with someone else and get a different response for any issue.

7th- They have a nice gym...when underage kids arent drinking alcohol in the pool, then playing around on the gym equipment getting it soaking wet, or when underage teen girls arent hanging out in the mens bathroom/locker room in their bathing suits with full view of you taking a pee, or when families come to work out with their toddlers playing around on the equipment, or when babies are chilling out in their strollers while their mom works out.

8th- The complex has a stringent policy about picking up your dogs poop if they relieve themselves on the property. No problem...if you or you dog is not constantly stepping in goose poop. Their landscape looks nice and green; upon further inspection you will realize the green is all the goose poop no one cleans up. Its even all over the sidewalks. We make sure to take our shoes off when we come back in from outside. Taking green spots out of the carpet gets tiresome after the first few weeks.

Just a note, be careful when walking anywhere, you just might get ran over. Forget the fact that its a parking lot and tenants and their kids are all over, just walk briskly and constantly look both ways and forget about the goose poop you?re stepping in. Your life?s more important.
